Thanks to everyone on the excellent info on adjusting the parking brake. I pulled the rotors and adjusted the star wheel and now the parking brake works great!
While I have the caliper off the disc I am going to replace the rear pads with the Raybestos Quiet Stop pads. There are no instructions in the box with these pads. There is a small packet of some type of liquid that looks like grease or anti-seeze compound. What is this and what should I do with it. Any hints or tricks to replacing the pads.
Re: Help!!! Need Tips On Installing New Brake Pads (probable-cause)
Could it be anti-squeak? (sp) Put anti-squeal stuff on the back of the pad where it contacts the caliper. Doing this reduces vibration from the metal on the pad and metal on the caliper which could lead to brake squeaks (sp).

A couple of items that are important. Make sure to use Locktite on the bolts when reattaching the calipers. Also, the torque settinng for the caliper mounting bolts is 125 psi.

Just don't glom the stuff all over the back on the pads. All of them (Raybestos in particular) have little raised bumps on the back..hit the lube there.
Also don't forget on floating calipers to make sure you get the two spots where the caliper slides along on the spindle arm area.
Re: Help!!! Need Tips On Installing New Brake Pads (probable-cause)
My guess is it's lubricant for the posts/rods along which the calipers slide since the rears are of the floating caliper design .
Also, check the manual for the correct caliper bolt torque. 125 ft lbs (not psi!) sounds way high to me. My recollection is it's around 27 ft lds (35 NM).

Correct.. the caliper *bracket* ..at least on the front, is 125 Ft-lbs
The 15 MM caliper bolt is much less. 27 sounds good...
