Default Memory seat problems, sometimes they stick and/or reverse.

Some times I will get into the car and the seat will move forward rather than backwards when I unlock the doors. Some times it will move forward a bit and i get in and press forward and it moves a tad then stops. I hit it a few times nudging it forward and then it will go to the memory position when I hit the #1 memory. Anyone else have this issue, where to start looking? BCM, seat? What?

Thanks
Dave

I had some weird memory seat issues on my 98. It would often not go to the full retract position and some times it would pull up the wrong memory settings. So,,I did some experimenting.

First thing to check is, will the seat move fully in all the designed seat movement directions. I used the seat adjustment switch and moved the seat throughout its full range of motion in each axis. Found out that the seat was sticking in one area. Repeated cycling fixed that

Then I checked for BCM and SCM DTC's. Found some and cleared them.

Then I reprogrammed all of my fobs, paying particular attention to the number on the back of the FOB (ie #1 FOB or #2 FOB). Once the FOBs were learned, I set all of my personal driver settings like I wanted them. Mirrors, Radio stations, HVAC functions, seat positions etc......
Then I pressed and held the memory 1 button "paying particular attention to the number on the back of the FOB (ie #1 FOB or #2 FOB)." until the LED flashed. Have NOT had a problem since.

I also figured out that, if your 12 VDC battery is low or going bad, when you crank the engine (especially during cold cranking) the battery output will drop below some of the many module low voltage cut off thresholds and the FOBs will loose sync and some times the memory functions will default back to factory or some weird settings. I have seen batteries drop as low as 9 VDC and still have enough current to crank the engine. Remember! Battery voltage is inversely proportional to battery current. If you add a large current drain to the battery (Like the STARTER) the battery voltage will drop low.

If your having problems where you have to frequently RE-SYNC the FOBs, check the condition of the battery. Put a volt meter on the battery terminals and observe the meter readings when someone starts the engine. If it drops really low when the starter is first engaged, that could be part of your problem.

I've never had to resync the FOB's. And when the seat goes the CORRECT direction but stops shorf of where it should stop, the seat will not move through its full range of motion forward or back w/ the switch either. It'll move a millimeter and then stop. I hit the switch a few more times to move it forward and it'll move a millimeter at a time. After doing that a few times, the range of motion is normal w/o stops and the memory works again. It is quite odd.

Mine went nuts for awhile. Unplug the car's battery. Actually, I changed my battery to an Optima yellow top. Problem never came back.

Mine will work one time and not the next....and I'm using the same set of keys each time. I need to try resetting the FOB's and memory again I guess.

Mine does the same exact thing, very anoying!!! It seems to be better for awhile if I reset the settings. But the problem will eventually come back. I've just been living with it. If you find a fix definately post it here! I'm assuming its a connection problem like we have in these vehicles....maybe a flakey ground to the seat motor???? I have problems with the steering wheel not going back to it's settings also. But on that if you go through the recal procedure it will work for awhile also.

Even when I shut off the "easy exit" feature, it would still go back when I'd take the key out. It'd go to a different spot instead of the setting I saved at start-up. That sort of thing.

Jason

Try this:

Turn the seat memory ON in the DIC. Examine the DIC for any DTCs. If there are any,, CLEAR them! Set the seat all the way in the rewarward lower flat position. Then Hit save on the MEMORY POSITION. Make sure that you do the same for eack FOB and Memory bank. (Mem 1 & Mem 2 )

Then turn the memory OFF and see what happens.

Let me kno how you make out.

Me, too! I just accept it as the way GM wanted it to operate.
