I am convinced that Khumo tires are the right choice for me. I know a lot of the forum members are using them, but I know they don't make stock size replacements. What size are you guys using? Thanks,
Ray :flag
The rear size of 275/35 is 1" smaller in overall diameter. This will affect the A4 shift points, TC, ABS, AH. To what degree - who knows.
What worries me most about 35 series rubber is that the sidewall is 1/2" shorter than stock. That's a lot less protection from rim damage due to a pothole. The non-run-flat sidewall is also more flexible, compounding that risk.
I would definately think you'll need reprogramming on a A4. But, I have a MN6 and I do not believe it will throw off the speedo and will not effect the odometer. If I'm not mistaken, the computer monitors the tranny and performs the correct calculation to get the numbers.
You are dropping the front and the rear so the TC, ABS have no idea there is any change the only thing is you are actually going a little slower than indicated on the speedo. I have a 6spd but can't see that this would cause any problems even on an automatic. It won't even know the difference.
I'm running 255-40-17 front and 275-35-18 rear with no problems whatsoever. AH & TC act exactly the same as before. The overall diameter of the rears (tire plus wheel) is 4% smaller than stock...
STOCK
18" = 457.2mm
40% x 275mm = 110mm
Overall dia = 457.2mm + (2 x 110mm) = 677.2mm
KUMHOS
35% x 275mm = 96.25mm
Overall dia = 457.2mm + (2 x 96.25mm) = 649.7mm
The difference is about 4%. This means your speedo will be off by that much as well (less than 3mph at 65mph.) Your effective gear ratio will also increase by 4%. With the MN6, take 3.42:1 x 1.04 and your effective ratio is now 3.56:1. Free gear change! Although not enough to make a huge difference.
The Kumho's are by far the best bang for your buck tire out there. Outstanding performance for little cost. I'll be running them from now on.
