Default every day driver - performance questions...

I recently bought a 2000 m6 vette and since i have been researching and reading a ton about what mods to do. I came across a post by Ranger i believe that talked about your goal for the car will show the path for what type of performance parts you should upgrade to. I would like to hear everyones opinion on my thoughts so far on what i think i am going to do.

my goal is : to have a low 12 second street car, possibly even high 11s if i can keep traction on the street without doing heavy mods, while still having an every day driving car.

i know both parts kind of conflict each other but its what i want.

my vette is bone stock except for an intake by K&N. my conclusions from my research are to buy the following: (1) american racing headers 1 3/4 inch with high flow cats and xpipe, (2) 3:73 rear end, (3) 160 deg thermostat, then have it tuned by a reputable vette place.

if i do these mods and drive my car very well, what do you guys think it will run in the quarter mile? and do you think that its to much speed for the street for daily driving?

thanks in advance for all your help and advice, i really appreciate it.

I would say those mods would put you in the mid 12s. Add heads/cam and you could be in the 11s.

And if you are going to change gears on a manual, 4.10’s or don’t bother. Sixth gear is so tall, it will still be a highway cruise gear only.

What RPMs are you running in 6th on the highway? I went with 3.90 and it was still very drivable, but stopped short of the 4.10's.

6th gear @ 60mph is about 1600rpm.

Thanks LV...lower than I thought it might be

Neo, I have the setup you're thinking of installing. My car baselined 307hp at the rear wheels prior to mods (bone stock). I haven't finished tweaking it yet, but I think with the right rubber you could dip into mid-12's with this, poss low 12's on the right day. Dyno tune will make all the difference. Where are you located? Lots of shops but be careful who you pick, lots of good feedback on the boards.

Good luck!

If you are going to use sticky tires, like drag radials, you will need to upgrade your drive train (and it gets expensive).

Good luck and have fun,

I think you're got it covered for first round IMO, but go with 3.90's or 4.10's. I've stopped adding where I am because (as LV pointed out) going further now will start to have domino effect. Heads / cam / intake, blower, etc... and I start to get concerned about clutch, shafts and other drivetrain parts. I'd install, let them tune it up and see where you are.

Let us know how it goes!
