Security Light on Dash

Sorry, it's a 98 vert.
There are several variables on a c-5 for the security light. As for the Pass Key it has been used on several GM models and have had similar security light issues. The key pellet in your key like stated could be damaged, or dirty and the BCM did not recognize the value stored in memory. Another problem could also be a bad or contaminated sensor in the key cylinder lock housing.Possibly a loose connection on the sensor.
I know on other systems if the pass key value is not recognized, but within a set value in the PCM it will illuminate the security light but still allow vehicle to start.
(If you get a new key or it gets worn)Other models are also able to do a relearn by watching the security light. When key is inserted and turn to run position If the security light flashes four times and stay on then you have to wait ten minutes and it will relearn the value and the light will go out. Then you must turn off ignition restart and it will start with no light.
Check the Basics:Keys(worn or damaged),Battery Voltage also check for codes, there are sevral codes linked to the Security light
You may just need to do a relearn if the C-5 is the same as other GM models
