Default California Emissions Vette

I'm looking at 2000 hardtop Vette from california with the LEV (lower emmissions vehicle) option. I know it has an extra set of pup cats but other than the cats do they do anthing to the car to make it LEV compliant. Like messing with the motor, computer, or trans.

Thanks,
Bill

All C5's from 97-04 are 50 state emissions compliant and there is no difference between them, I know there was a difference during the C3 generation but it's not like that on C5's.

What was the last year GM made a different optioned Corvette for California, anybody? Was it 1982?

My 2001 came with RPO NC1 - "Emission System, California LEV" as a $0 "option". I'm GUESSING that this is a paperwork item ... probably keeps the Calif. DMV happy when registering the car. I believe all Corvettes originally ordered for delivery in California have this no cost item.

The C6 have RPO NU1 - "Emission System - California, LEV2" on them last time I looked.

maybe I don't remember clearly, but I thought that didn't start for the C5 until 2001 ???

That's also my understanding.

Anyone out there have a '97-'00 without pup-cats have the emissions sticker under the hood that states it is California compliant that is not an original California Vette?

Edit: I think the pup-cats were added to 2000, not the '97-'99. And the 2000 had a different cam.

Found this tidbit for 2000:
"The 5.7 liter LS1 V8 engine is revised to comply with government LEV requirements in California and states requiring California emissions. This is largely due to new calibration to the powertrain control module (PCM) with emphasis on stricter emission control."

I believe in 2001, the sticker included something like, "This vehicle is emissions legal in 50 states and California." (which is redundent).

But yes, I would say that there is NO HP or torque differences among the cars in any of the 50 states.

Thats new to me, I understood that all C5's were 50 state legal. Now I'm going to have to look up a 97-98 to verify that.
