Aftermarket MAFS are the single biggest wastes of $$$ if you are looking to mod. You will see ZERO gain and possibly have codes. It is a big and most good tuners will take it off and go back to stock if you have it tuned.

"Performance" MAFs are snake oil.

Yes--the stock MAF is good for 500 RWHP---getting an aftermarket MAF to work correctly takes hours of data logging and tuning--and it probably still will surge and buck --Not worth the trouble --even when tuned well--only 3-4 RWHP there anyway--
Stock MAF--screen and all !!!

If the factory throttle body is 90mm, and the factory MAS is 85mm, how could changing the throttle body to say, a Lingenfelter 100mm unit not be good? Seems from a logical perspective that more air passing through the MAS would mean more available air for the throttle body, and thus increase hp by having all that available air at any given time available to the motor.
But then, that's logic

I put one on my '01 a few years ago, never had an issue either.......also never got any gains in HP according to 21st Century dyno! Pulled it off (as recommended by the dyno guys) and sold it on eBay to some poor slob that thought he was buying some bolt-on HP

Because the PCM is "calibrated" for the stock MAF. Almost all aftermarket MAFs seem to provide "false" readings to the PCM .... hence the PCM gets confused because it is "fighting" to keep the engine running in the correct H02S range, and just finally gives up and posts codes.

As tblu92 points out, if you want to spend hours and hours re-calibrating the PCM for the new MAF ... then you may see a benefit and not get codes. But given that there are MUCH bigger gains to be gotten from other changes, very few people think an aftermarket MAF is worth the tiny gains for hours of pain.

That makes three of us all together. What happened with the aftermarket units that make people runn away?

It's not. C5 TB's are 75mm.

The single best MAF modification that can be made is the elimination of it.
