Basicaly, for an all out race application the shorter primaries of the ARs will perform slightly better at high RPM. For a street motor that spends all of its time below 6500, the longer primaries of the LG will likely be better.
Tony explains all of this very clearly in that thread, it's a worthwhile read.
I'll say it before and I'll say it again. There has never been a side by side comparission presented here by a third party (not bias to the brand) of 2 of the same car , or closely matched cars that will convince me 1 header is better than the other. We can look at Dyno graphs all day long posted by the manufacturer claiming their headers produce the best power...of course they are going to say that
Everytime a comparission is done, it's done like " i got this much horsepower from this header, oh and I have heads/cam supercharger etc.. "I've never seen a true apples to apples comparison.
I spoke to several different pro shops and tuners about this and I got a consistent answer from them all: To truely find out what header works the best for your car, you'd have to try them all...each motor has some varience in power, in other words, not all LS1's are created equal.
The most popular brands, and brands that seem to have the best quality and have gotten good reviews from folks here are:
LG's
Dynatech Supermaxx
American Racing
Kooks
Good luck with your decision, you'll be very happy with any of the above.

Nice reply
I like this statement the most,

^^ I know. Thanks for starting that thread. Very educational indeed!!
I know folks will argue the brands but frankly they all are about five to 10 hp within each other. Yes the longer primaries will give you more torque and power under 5500 rpm and the shorter over that at 5500 but the quality of the top brands is about equal. You really need to look at ease of installation, how low will they hang (LG's supposedly have a problem there but only if you lower the car), what grade stainless steel and customer support/warranty. LG's, American Racing, Kooks, Stainless Works, Berlinger (sp) are just a few of the better known brands.
After doing my research, I just purchased set of AR headers with hi-flow cats and had them installed at Carlisle. That said, I am a very big fan of Lou at LG and read nothing but good things about him and his company. He is one of my favorite racers in the Speed World Challenge series. I think the LGs were a very close 2nd on my header list.
What I took away from reading about header systems on the forum.
LG Pros - Produce lots of low end torque. Nice fit and finish and easy to install. Saw issues with air tube pipes breaking or blowing off resulting in the need for some repairs. Main primaries use slip joints and brackets that are difficult to prevent leaks. I think these issues have been resolved with improved brackets at the slip joints and welding on the air tubes. Lou stands behind his product and offers excellent customer service. I took away from this that nobody was unhappy with LG.
LG Streets - I believe these are more affordable than the pros and may be made by Borla for LG. Easy to install and nice fit and finish.
American Racing - Excellent fit and finish. Easy to install. Good performance. Interesting design. Main primaries are flanged with bolted. X-Pipe connects right off main primarries instead of further back in the system like the others. Nick at AR is a real gentleman.
Dynatech Supermaxx - I have really read nothing bad about these headers. Excellent fit and finish. Easy to install. Good performance. Main primaries are flanged and bolted.
Kooks - The only issues I read about these headers was the degree of difficulty in installing them. Used to be you had to loosen a motor mount on on side and lift the engine a bit to get them in.
Good luck with your purchase.

I've got Dynatech SuperMaxx headers and I love 'em - they gotta be one of the top three, if you figure the top three are LG, AR's and Dynatech's - EG had/has Dynatech's on Grond, and I figure if they are good enough for him, they are good enough for me
Do a search of EG's threads from this past week - EG had a write up about Dynatech headers he installed, and he had pics of the above 3 side by side for comparison
I got the ARH's because my future build will have more than enough low end hp and tq. I'll be spending alot of time in the 4500-6500 rpm range and Ive read that thats where the American Racing Headers really shine
Chris, When did you live in Appleton ? I grew up there! I live a bit west of there now. I too have been thinking about headers & CAI for my '03. I'll put on what the guys at FLP reccommend.
Cool BGreen78, how are you liking them?
Can I ask what it cost?
Chris
yeah i like them, if i remember they were 850.00, i have a custom exhaust to a custom basani x pipe to ghl bullet exhaust, two tips. its sounds really nice, sounds like a race car when i get on it, but cruising isn't too loud. close the windows and tune the radio on and cant hear a thing.
