Default C5 Radio Change

Is there some way to take out the delco radio and install a new one....Now Im not talking about the undersized radio that you could put in im talking about putting back in the same size radio......Is it a din and a half...Is it a din...Or is it a two din....And will one of these work.

The radio is DIN and a half. Not many options for a direct size replacement. Many people get a DIN stereo with the adapter. Some (me) go double DIN for extra fun for the install.

There is a Pioneer unit that is good for a direct replacement stereo.

I went with a Pioneer AVIC DVD/CD/radio/Nav unit. Its also 1.5 DIN and a straight fit. You'd need a Soundgate harness to keep the Bose speakers and an antenna adaptor. The latest model is the N3 I think.

Alpine and Pioneer make a 1.5 din. But the pickings are slim in a direct fit.

DeeGee..I like that unit..but the look of teh screen deployed and covering the dash bugs me....
has anyone seen an install where they've removed the ash tray moved the HVAC controls down one slot then moved the radio down one?

Yes it was done a couple of times when the unit was new. the fit is reasonably tight as the screen only just clears the shifter when it comes out in the lower slot. I think you need to trim out some of the aluminum frame behind the radio to get it to fit.

I learned to live with it. the screen position is good for navigation and closer to the eyeline. Your eye's away from the road fractionally less in the higher position. The blocking of the AC is only an issue in very high temperatures.

Overall I'm glad I stuck with the original.

RedRider,

Have you actually installed one of these in a C5, or know someone that has?

Thanks, GUSTO

I have, the fit is fine. The face sticks out around 1" from the dash. If it sat more into the dash it would look better, IMHO. Sorry no pics. I changed back to stock.
