Default SuperChargers

Hi Guys,

I've been kicking around the idea of supercharging my C5 for quite some time now, and have been looking at different Superchargers and there prices. The Performance Techniquel Center kit is about 11k and they use a Vortech Supercharger. But when I went to the Vortech Website they don't appear to offer a kit specifially for C5's. The closest kit I could find was for 2001 F-Bodies http://www.vortechsuperchargers.com/...r/01fbody.html . Do any of you know if this kit would work on a C5?
Or do you think it would be better to just scrap the idea of getting a supercharger, and just go with Heads, Cam and Intake?

Thanks for you replies in advance.

Christian

There are several supercharger packages available for the C5 but personally I would save $5k and go with H/C. :D

Any good supercharger kit on a stock c5 will get you a bit over 400rwhp and costs upwards of 10K. You can do things the natural way for almost half the price by going heads/cam and improve the exhaust (long tube headers) at the same time.

I do like superchargers but I would never do one unless I was going to build a low compression engine to go with it so I could run some REAL boost.

If you are interested in any info about ARE's heads/cam packages, drop me an email.

I agree with the rest, the heads, cam and headers will give you very reliable power for much less cash. What happened to our Canes? I am from Miami and went to UM. I hope the offense comes back to life before next week! We probably will slip to Number 2 this week since Nebraska had a more impressive win.

Time for a desenting opinion; although I agree that you can get the same power for less cash with, heads, cam, headers and NOS. However, having a SC on a car makes your car a little more unique when you pop the hood...not to mention the  sound. It is also power on demand with out having to open, heat and refill a bottle that takes up a lot of space. My car idels like it is almost stock, I researched these systems a lot and decided on the Carroll Supercharger kit and would recommend it.

Depending on your long term plans for the car and your HP goals, keeping it or trading it in, etc.., the Carroll System gives you the ability to turn the car back to stock....and can get you 400 rwhp as a bolt on.

Good Luck with your decision...that to me has always been the hardest part.

ATI Procharger is out for the f-bodies, utilizing an air-air intercooler. I've been checking into this. The official C5 kit is still not out, and I'm not wiating or holding my breath. I know of a place in Colorado that does a lot of the ATI superchargers on f-bodies, and also does the ATI on the C5. The stage 1 goes for $4485 and sees 400-425rwhp. Stage 3 runs $7000 and sees 575-750rwhp depending on your engine combination.

I'm looking at the Stage 3, given my engine build, with the D1SC unit. Will expect at least 700-750rwhp. Likely will do something with them either on the vette or WS6 this winter. I have no affiliation with them, just sharing my research. They are well respected on the LS1Forum.

I'm not sure if I can post their name or website here on the forum, since I don't believe they are CF sponsors. If I can, someone let me know and I will do so, otherwise if interested you can email me for more information.

Hey Guys, thanks for the info, I think I'm gonna go with the Heads and Cam, or maybe even juice.
About the Canes, I dunno, we kept having all those turnovers. I was watching the game with some of the kids in my dorm and I was worried Ken Dorsey was going to give us all ulcers ;).

MattG I too was thinking about a blower after getting my clock cleaned by a 5,000 pound stock "Lightening" pickup truck. I was embarrassed and my wife was pissed. I don't mean to sound stupid but your sig shows 417rwhp with heads/cam and 516 on the bottle. What other mods have you done? Also, does nitrous require lower compression? What is your ET?

I ran the ATI kit on the 92LT1 and that was ontop the H/C also.
I engine compression really should be lowered first. Heck I would know.

On the LS1, I'm considering H/C only.

I agree with George about the CR if you are looking to run big boost. I do not see a problem running 4.5-7#boost on the stock engine. The f-body LS1 guys often run the ~5# boost kits on stock engines and stock programming. Some will go to 7#. I think if you want more than 8# you need to think about some additional options. Drop the CR and you can run bigger boost.

What's the best way to lower the CR, new piston/gasket ? I'm assuming these are cast pistions anyway. Almost sounds easier to get another block and start from scratch. Keep the #s in order, if it matters anymore.

As a longtime driver of supercharged and turbo cars, supercharging would be my choice for a street C-5. My suggestion is as someone else said, build an engine from scratch to be supercharged. My preference is Arias pistons at the correct c.r. and Carillo rods, for a start. You'll spend more than with the other options and more than with a kit, but if built properly it will be bullet-proof. Check with some of the Forum members who have SC'd C-5's. I used to see a couple. Best of luck how ever you go. :yesnod:

BTW, the correct cam IS critical!

I guess I missed this one the first time around. I would suggest going with a supercharger kit along with heads and cam. I would also suggest that you look at it as a complete project. I had mine built on a stock motor and it has been running great for a year and a half now. Performance Tech Center did the work on my car and they seem to be the only people out there that have an operating supercharger kit. Carol has a kit but many of those people have had to go to PTC to get it operating.

A guy at btrvette.com (Tom) has a system that runs like crazy. One of my good friends just ordered it. It's safe and powerful.

I was talking to a fellow C5 owner that has a supercharger on his, and he told me he had problems with the drive pulley. He said it was pressed on rather then keyed, and as a result it would slip on the shaft gauling the shaft. Anyone know if this is a true statement with the C5's?
