my first time to the track i went easy on the car and i was launching out of the hole at 3k rpm-ish, and the car was doing fine but if i left at 4k rpms i would wheel hop. my biggest fear is breaking something.. i do like to leave at higher rpms...the car is stock at the moment..what do you suggest i do to straighten things???

If your cutting good 60' times at 3k, then stay there. Thats where i launched my stocker for a 1.9 60' and a 12.3 @115.9. Also, are you slipping the clutch at that 4k launch? What tires and tire pressure are you running? DR's are also a possiblity if you like to leave at high R's. I leave at 5k on mine.
Wheel hop is a big no-no--I would deff. back off the launch RPM until you can figure out how to get rid of it--however if you are getting good 60' times--them 3000 is fine anyway--Oh--and wheel hop will usually break the output shafts on the differential--I believe the left side is the one that always breaks--you can buy a stonger one from several vendors on the forum--they are about $3-400 plus the install-
my 60's are not the best. my best is 2.08 and most of them are 2.1 2.2. but i have only gone once.. i do need DRs. I spin like a bi no mater what i do, so the R's have to stay lower.
How can i make my rearend stronger??
What do you guys have done to your rearends to leave at high R's??
your 60's aren't bad at all for your first time. if you get wheel hop try lowering your tire pressure and see if that helps. With radial tires there is only so low you can go until they start to cup on you. You can also try to slip the clutch a touch longer or don't give it as much gas out of the hole so the tires aren't fighting for traction so much.
IMO, I would stick with the stock tires @ your power level and learn to maximize traction with the power you currently have before switching to DRs.
wheel hop just comes with these cars. I have wheel hop on the street but never at the track. Think about why your having it and then go from there. The tires are on the verge of traction and breaking loose. Either rase the tire pressure and spin a little or lower the pressure and try slipping the clitch a little more untill your moving enough that the tires will hook. Just try new things. Like said before, wheel hop is what breaks shafts, amungst other thing. I launching at 5k on DR's and my rear and IRS are all stock. New half shafts are coming though.

You definitely want to avoid wheel hop at all costs. That how you destroy your driveline. I would definitely look into a DTE brace.
Also, do a search on a guy named "Ranger". He is a very good drag racer and posts a lot of good info.

Reason: fix grammer error
thanks for all your advice. i am not new to the irs and drag racing and i would think I'm OK at it but i need to know what to do to the rear end.
^^ The reason I suggested looking up Ranger is that he has been very successful drag racing stock corvettes. I figure if you want to keep your rear in tact do what he does cause he must be doing something right!
Never hurts to ask for advice from people with experience and from what I have seen Ranger is very willing to share and help his fellow vetters.
