I recently had my vararam installed and later noticed that my thermostat was WAY OFF. It will jump between -37F and 50F. I assume my thermostat is broken? or an IAT sensor or w/e it's called?
Normally this wouldn't bother me and I would just ignore it. BUT ITS HOT OUTSIDE AND THE AC DOESN'T WANT TO TURN ON.
According to the manual the ac will not turn on if the temp is below 32F or something like that. So all it is doing is blowing hot air. I assume it does this because it thinks the car is -30F and wants to make it 60F. If any of you can help me out it would be appreciated.
I think you are describing your external ambient temp sensor. It is located on the front right lower part of the car. It might be unplugged or damaged. You have to get under the bumper to see it.
Yep, same exact thing happened to me on my install. It is the outside temp sensor as mentioned above. Pull the connector off to see if you have any corrosion on it or to just re-seat it. If that doesn't work ( I wasn't that lucky) buy a new sensor from the dealer (12-14 dollars). It is located on the passenger side underneath in the front. You can see it looking under the car. I reached down from under the hood to pull the connector off. Guess mine got damaged when I disconnected it somehow.
Chances are you removed it for the Vararm install and did not get it re positioned/cennected properly or in worst case damaged it. New one under $20.
You can get at the ambient air sensor from above... on the passenger side of the engine compartment...
ahead of the engine
on the side of the radiator shroud close the the bottom and front...
pull it out of the side of the shroud with needle nose pliers, discsonnect the drypack connector, replace if necessary
I'm having trouble distinguishing which is the ambient air temperature sensor. I see like three different plugs. Could somebody possibly take a picture and circle where it is? I think I know which one it is but couldn't get the air temp to read accurate.
Can't miss it if you look from underneath the car. The probe sticks out from in front of the radiator on the passenger side. And yes, the connector is below the passenger side headlight. Way down at the bottom.
Try to re-connect first. If that doesn't work, replace it. It is an actual cheap part from the stealership. Imagine that. The guy behind the counter I bought mine from was shocked it was cheap.
