Default Gas gauge problems.

Out of the blue my gas gauge is freaking out. It goes from buried at empty to where it should be, 1/2 tank and buried again. The car sits alot between seasons and having time to drive her, it's a 2004 with 3700 miles. The car only sees 100+ octane racing fuel which I think can be part of my problem. I don't think it has the same detergents, etc.
I'm going to try Techron fuel system cleaner unless someone thinks it's something else.

Any ideas on what the problem could be?

Thanks!

Fouled level sensor is common. Add TWO containers of Techron or a QUART of Seafoam to an EMPTY tank and then fill the car. Try this for two tank fill ups in succession and then maybe once a quarter. The problem should go away.

This is caused by sulphur in gas. Switch to a Top Tier gas (go to toptiergas.com).

Adding Techron to gas will fix it. I would only use 1 container per tankful. You can do in second tankful if needed.

Or use Chevron or Texaco fuel if there is a station close by since they have Techron as an additive.
