Default Does clutch slipping activate the traction control?

Hello

I have noticed when in 3rd gear if I go to WOT sometimes, the active handling/traction control system will activate, even though the tires are not spinning.

Any ideas why the active handling/traction control system activated?

Traction control employment is developed and determined by variations in wheel speeds as derived from AC signals from the individual wheel speed sensors are compared by the EBTCM. If the rear wheel are slipping more as compared to the front wheels or rear wheels are slipping side to side. You will see a traction control message.

Active Handling employment is developed and determined by variations in wheel speeds as derived from AC signals from the individual wheel speed sensors and or inputs from YAW AND PITCH sensors. It compares that information based on desired steering wheel angle. The EBTCM will induce AH if the yaw or pitch inputs differ from the desired steering wheel input.

Are you getting Active Handling notification or Traction Control notification?? Look carefully at the message that is being displayed on the DIC.

I do not see how a slipping clutch will have anything to do with AH or TC.

with Bill ... couple of additional thoughts ....

Your profile says you have almost 500 RWHP .... you SURE you're not spinning those tires going into 3rd ????

Doesn't say what tire/wheel sizes you have on the car. The TC system expects some "stagger" (larger rear tires than front) and is more sensitive if you are running, say, all four tires at the same size.

Finally, I beleve the TC system is more "sensitive" on the Corvette until the 2001 Model Year when Chevy went to a less "sensitive" TC algorithm. Bill can comment further on that if he posts again.

(Edit: - Sorry I just looked again ... you have a 2002 Z06 ... my eye caught on the earlier car that've sold.)

Thanks for the information. Unfortunately I dont recall the exact message, it happened twice this past weekend while I was doing an HPDE.

Both times it occured was during my 4th run while I was going up a hill. Thats the reason why I though my clutch was slipping as I didnt see this message the previous 3 runs.

Traction Control does not wait for a complete revolution of the tire before it kicks in..The slightest speed increase and it jumps on it...

The mere fact that it kicked in means that it sensed the tires broke loose. You did not feel it because it before you even hear a sound from the tires the TC is on it like stank on Schiat...

I have spun my tires at higher speeds and TC does not kick on that fast, the back end will ususally start to kick out before the TC comes on.

Maybe the systems are different depending on the year.

Do you have different tires for the HPDE events? as others have mentioned, the car does expect some stagger in size. I have Drag Radials that are the same size as the fronts - Traction control will kick in around 65-70mph or so... Maybe your rear tires are really balding and you jsut started to hit that magic number of stagger and it was triggering it.
