Does anyone have GM's C5 service manual? If so, what does the manual tell the tech to do in order to replace the bulb?
Some have said that they are able to move the brake duct back enough to lower it, then stick there hand up and remove and change the bulb...I can possibly see that but then there is the trouble of getting the brake duct back into it's original position.
Some say to raise the hood, then raise the lights and then there is enough room to reach in and change the bulb.
Some say remove the headlamp housing/cover and then there's room.
But what does the Service Manual supposedly used at the dealers say for the procedure in replacing the DRLs?
Of course with the dealer you risk the tech scratching up your headlamp cover, hood or front fascia.
It seems that we these lights on all the time...they probably won't last long. I'll bet the Canadians are fed up with having to replace bulbs all the time.
Thanks!
(GM must be in cahoots with the bulb manufacturers)
I looked it up in the service manuals, and it says to go through the brake ducts. Believe me this is much easier than going underneath the raised headlamp. Did my passenger side a month ago. Repositioning the brake duct is fairly simple by hand. 10-15min job per side.
C5, thanks for the info, but how easily do the brake ducts "unhook" from their position? I gave it a shot, but it looks like it's a real bear to budge them. Then once you push them down and out of the way so can reach up to the bulb (I'm assuming that's the procedure)...how difficult is it to put them back in place since you really don't have any other way to reposition the ducts except by placing your hand inside the duct from the front? Do they snap back in or just slide back into position?

If your car is like mine, it's not hard at all. To put them back on, you put your hand in and raise the duct up, and it will slip back to where it is supposed to go.
I wouldn't stress over it, it's a very simple procedure, and (at least for me) it didn't seem like there was a way to screw anyhting up, or break anything.
One thing though, I couldn't fit my hand in the duct to reach the bulb. My girlfriend had to do it for me :( Luckily she doesn't remind me too often about having to fix my car for me
Re: Replacing DRLs/Service Manual (Miles in Michigan)
Miles, thanks for the info. Just a few more questions: how hard is it to push the duct back...does the duct clip on or something to the front fascia? Or is it just pressure fitted around a "lip" on the fascia? Also, once you (or your girlfriend) get to the bulb, is the wire long enough to pull it through the brake duct opening to replace the bulb? Thanks
