Default Active Handling Warming Up..getting ridicuious HELP

Hi all,

1999 Vert automatic.

The above message has occured last year a couple times.
This year in the last three days the message has appeared a dozen times.
Temperature has been 50-60 degrees (San Fransisco).
I have a Donaldson/Blackwing.

No obvious dirt/ oil on the IAT sensor.

I used our search function and read that the message should disappear after 15 minutes (once warm) and it does not disappear.

Additionally, there is a comment that the steering wheel sensor needs to calibrate be having the car go in a straight line upon start up. The message remains.

Lastly, in attemps to clear the message I turn the engine off, pull the key, let easy out fully stop, open the door and close the door and observe the security light blink. Then enter let gauges swing and then start the car. The message occurs once moving.

I even tried this proceedure with the Traction control button turned off to no avail.

1) Where is the steering wheel sensor located? Would cleaning help?
2) Is a new IAT sensor required?
3) Do I just drive with slides and sideways? (ha ha)

HELP.

Kenny

I get the same message in cooler weather. It warms up after a few miles and the message goes away. I checked codes and I don't have any so I believe it is working correctly. Just hit the reset if you don't want it to show up on the DIC. After it is fully warmed up it will still tell you.

Damn AH warm up b.s. I'm always having to deal with this problem. Since the sensor is clean I'd think about getting a new one. Also check the wires. On my '99, they were so cheap that they broke when doing some intake work. GM has an upgraded replacement harness w/ connector that I installed. Or maybe your connector is getting worn? I've had to adjust the clips to make a better connection after getting the message lately.

I've never gotten a code for the steering sensor though.

BTW, the steering sensor is under the engine, right behind the steering rack if I remember correctly. I have seen a car get the message, and the code, from one that was 180 deg. / upside down after some heavy engine work was done to it.
