I pulled the rear rotors off the other day to inspect the E-brake and I have a question regarding the little tin (or pick your favorite cheap metal) sheet metal retainers on two of the five lug nut studs. These things shred your fingers a little during removal and I personally would rather do without them. My simple brake question is.... Are these pieces just used during assembly in Bowling Green and then serve no purpose for the future or is there a reason to re-install them after removing the rotors.
Thanks for the help.

Reason: I suck at grammar
Technically you do not need them I do not reuse them. However they help providing the purpose of helping hold the rotor flush to the hub and aid in proper wheel install. (blah, blah, blah)
When I did the brakes on my girlfriend's Trailblazer I was **** and took my time to take them off an put them back the way they came... When I saw them on the vette I was like, "NO WAY... those little pieces of junk again". They'll be gone the by the end of the weekend.
... and regarding the rubber band under the dash refernced above, I think mine broke. Should I install a larger one and call it a performance mod?
Thanks for the replys, have a great weekend.

When the car is on the assembly line, the rotors go on and these hold them in place while the caliper and sub bracket are mounted. Once those parts are in place they are of absolutely no use on the car. I bought my car new and was VERY **** about taking EVERYTHING off the car had on it (plastic, tags, stickers, etc) and save it for the future. Why? I have no idea, it'll be "mint" condition if I ever sell it on ebay in twenty years (or cyber-bay by then).
BTW, you can always tell if a car has had the brakes worked over because of those. Had a dealership tell me they changed e-brake lining on my Silverado, only to find the clips still in place. Can you say "flatrate lazy tech busted" ?
