Default 3.42 differential

I'm in hot pursuit of upgrading my 2.73 to a 3.42 and want to to know if anyone has a Texas Speed and if so how does it perform/like?

It's a DTE-built unit so the best you can get. I run one of the first DTE 4.10's and it has served me quietly and faithfully. Can't go wrong with DTE. Stout, high quality and backed with excellent service.

with that as far as DTE is concerned....Top notch co,great products...

The way I read that link is an exchange basis though, and I am not sure if the 2:73 case can utilize the 3:42 gear set or not..And if not ,that will drive that price up a good bit

You can purchase a new GM getrag 3:42 for about 1200 plus shipping though via forum vendors....

When it comes to the install, shoot me a pm if you want to...

DTE is the only diff rebuilder I know that has adapted the 2.73 case to any of the lower gear sets available for the C5. Not sure of the trade-in policy on the 2.73 vs. 3.15/3.42 case though.

Here's a thread on my install recently.

^^^^ awesome writeup and pics Patches. I wish you lived closer I would hire you to do some work on my vette!! Was wondering, when doing rear gears only on a M6, do you have to drop the whole driveline or can you simply remove the rear suspension and diff??? Thanks, Andy

I believe Cajundude at Gulf Coast Performance has done this also.

I can't help but wonder, since it was not available for such a very long time,if there is some sort of trade off using the 2:73 case.
I am thinking strength wise,if you know what I mean.

It would be really cool if someone who knows for sure,(not claiming you don't,I just mean a diff guy)could clear that up

Captain Cruz:

Just hang out and wait, and pick up a gently used one that you can verify is good, and save a boatload of cash!!!

These m6 guys love their 3:90/4:10's

Hey Joe, Thanks for the advice but always seem to be a dollar short and a second behind on the for sale section being that I work at 36,000 ft. with no high speed internet My experience is you have to get on it early

If you would like, maybe I could "tag" one for ya if I see one.

Or at least attempt it,with your obviously having the final decision

I would be more than happy to help you with that if you wish, since I work at about a 3-6 ft. altitude
Plus I am in the FS section all the time anyways

A pilot with a vette??
Thought I was the only one--- right!
Been thinking about something along the lines you are, already have a 3.14 and would love a 3.90.
Think DTE will be getting a call next week!

You can drop the rear carraige, unbolt the diff and pull it off without removing the drivetrain. There is a 15-degree tilt limitation on the drivetrain when rotating it to allow the diff to clear the rear tub.
