Very common problem... I run a bottle of Techron every 2000 miles to dissolve any sulfer build up on the fuel sending unit.. I only use Chevron 93 octane with techron... No more problems... If it gets real bad or is neglected for awhile the sending unit will have to be replaced because of too much sulfer build up
Have half a tank of gas, gauge went to E and Check Guages light came on. Tried to use Reset button, but no luck. Any ideas?
There are various reasons why the fuel gauge can malfunction. Just like previously mentioned in this thread, in searching the Corvette Forum archives you will note that by far the most diagnosed reason is due to sulfur fouled sending units which are usually treated successfully with Techron, Seafoam, etc.
My fuel gauge issue turned out to be from a different cause. Fuel wasn’t transferring from the right tank to the left. The sending units saw the level discrepancy as an error and would cause the gauge to trip off. I fixed the fuel transfer problem and haven’t had a problem with the fuel gauge since.
Ran out of gas… due to fuel transfer system failure http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1758904
Technically there are several possible reasons for faulty fuel gauge readings.
I hope your repair turns out to be inexpensive and easy!
I got in the car this AM, the gauge was reading correctly. For the first time I had less than 1/2 a tank and it read that was. I drove around and got almost down to 1/4 tank and still fine. This thing hasnt worked in 6 months. All I had to do was run a wore through the little plastic orifice in the Jet pump.
Mike and Bill, Thank You so much for your help on this. Your information saved me tons of $$$$. I spent $25 for a pump and a pan to do the job instead of upwards of $2000 the Stealership wanted.
I have the same problem with my fuel gauge, but it is intermittent. I ran a tankfull of Techtron treated gas through about a month ago. I plan on running another through now. Do you guys think that it would be allright to leave a full tank of treated gas set in the tank all winter and would it be allright to put Sta Bill in with it?
My fuel gauge stayed towards the full side most of the time. I ran 3 tanks of gas with the Techron added and now it won't move off of full. The wife was driving it and it showed 385 miles on the trip odometer. The car started dying as I was on the way to a gas station. made it just in time. I had 1/2 gallon left.
Guess I will have to pull it all out and see if I can clean it. Running 3 tanks consecutively with the Techron added should not have hurt anything, should it?

You obviously have no clue how many times I and many others have discussed this subject. The reasons and best recommendations have now become a matter of record in the archived information available to all here and save a TON of re-posting and re-hashing this same subject over and over and also saves members a lot of time and waiting for answers too. My post was directed to the OP, not you.
Glad to help.
