Default 97-98 vs 99+ fuel system question

How does the 97-98 fuel system differ from the later models? Why did GM change it?

they changed it because of $$ and some claim something with the heating of the fuel and emmissions?

The 97-8 setup has the fuel regulated at the fuel rail, so there is less pressure drop at WOT. But the fuel has to return back down the tunnel and the fuel get's heated up.

the 99+ has the regulator in the fuel filter, so you now have to spend 5x the amount for the filter, and if you modify your car, you could experience fuel pressure dops/loss at WOT

I actually converted my car back to a 97/8 setup to get rid of my fuel pressure issues, and i love the $9 fuel filter changes. I think i already saved the money it cost me with fuel filter changes alone (i change them every year)

Thanks. I heard alot about this on the FI section. I'm still waiting for Kenne Bell to come out with a SC kit for 97 cars.

I think this came up before... You should be able to tap a return line into the fuel rails and just put an aftermarket regulator in line before you run back to the factory return.

I want to say someone has already done this.

I have a '98 with 390 RWHP with the stock fuel pump and return regulator on the fuel rail--It works very well as I have logged many WOT runs and the fuel pressure never does anything weird or has drops in PSI--Even with a 100 shot of NOS the fuel pressure regulator reacts very quickly to the increased fuel demands and stays at a constant 52 PSI.
