Default Oil Pressure Maxxed out?!?

Real quickly. I started my car the other day, only to find that the oil pressure was maxxed out(80psi). It stays at 80psi on idle and during the entire drive. When I first start the car, the needle shoots up to 80psi like its supposed to, and then starts to float back to normal. Once it gets to about 65psi it reverses back towards 80psi and quickly buries itself until I shut the car off again. Any ideas? I'm assuming its just the sending unit but want to be sure before I replace anything. If it really is getting 80psi, is there any damage that could be getting done since its been that way for a few days and I've still been driving it. The oil level is perfect, and I had done nothing to the car for weeks before the incident occurred out of nowhere. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

Sounds like everybody's problem with the oil sending unit. There is a sticky at the top of the tech page. Do a search on oil sending unit. I replaced mine with a pontiac sensor.

Default Diagnosis

If you turn the key to the on position and the Oil Pressure is at full without starting the car, you have a faulty sender, and you do not have an oil pressure problem.

I hope this helps.
