Pressure plate adjustment issue?
I just found out that my Ram HD clutch is toast. I used it for about 1 year (12k miles). While I had it on the car i never drag raced, i never launched, i never road raced, just used the car as a daily driver. Now pretty much ever since i had the clutch installed, if i drove up my works parking garage, leaving the car in first, never touching the clutch, by the time i got the the 4th level and parked my car i could smell a clutch burning smell. Also unless done a certain way, the clutch would make a very loud metal on metal squealing noise that you could almost feel while starting from a stop. My friend said the clutch might have not been adjusted correctly. I saw from searching that you can adjust the pressure plate for adjusting the clamping force of the clutch fingers prior to install. I had a shop do install the clutch, is it possible they did not adjust this correctly and this caused the premature failure of my clutch? My friend said this would cause the clutch to never fully engage (slipping=burning smell?) and high engagement on the travel of the pedal which my car also exhibited. I am just trying to figure out what would kill this clutch so quickly while so many other people with more power then me that drive their cars a lot harder have a lot of success with the clutch.
