Well for the tree hugger here is a little info. There have been stories that
a car with no cats and a proper tune can pass a Federal inspection sniffer test. So why is that illegal?
Todays car run cleaner with or without cats than the pre-emission cars, so you might as well be saying a classic corvette is polluting the environment and should not be allowed on public roads This will always be a debatable opinionated subject.

So you can fool a "sniffer test". Good for you. There is a reason cars are built with enviornmental controls. If everyone thought like you (thank God they do not) the air really would be unfit to breathe due to all the gas fumes.
Lingenfelter, Callaway and I would venture to say a good number of vendors and tuners on this forum will advise you that taking the cats off and running on public roads is not advisable (the illegal part) It is also stupid, because those same tuners and vendors know that deleting cats yields you NOTHING in terms of HP (the stupid and irresponsible part).
And since we are on the subject of modern cars, The Modern Vettes do 180 out of the box with those same "restrictive cats" that seem to be holding some of you back. That is more than enough speed and power for most of us. I have no problem with modding for HP, the least you can do is stick to mods that REALLY give significant HP gains.

Who said any thing about fooling a sniffer test. I am talking about actual Hydrocarbns and other levels being released by the car that is what the sniff test is for. The only thing you can fool is the OBD II Test. My bad, I wasn't referring just to you as the tree hugger I meant plural. "huggers".
I'm not missing my tree, I just think it is asinine to run a car on public roads where everyone has to smell your gas fumes. If you want to turn your Vette into race car with no cats, that's your prerogative as long as you haul it to the track on a flatbed and race it off road. Once you put that car on a public road in that condition, you are engaging in a selfish, irresponsible and yes, illegal act that you are just lucky that no one has held you accountable for yet.
Dont come around my area ,There is no pass the Law emissions ,i have friends who have them & some without them ,i run without them as well , thats what 02 sims are for ,Does it make since to have a free flowing motor/Exhaust to put a cat on the other end to Stop it up & have to take a clothes hanger to clean it out when it stops up? Ride with a clothespin With u ,when u see a vette that u may think is catless plug your Nose , If You Really want me To Run with Cats I will Give u some Bank Account info & Have u pay for them & i will have them put on Review 3 of 18
Price Paid: $0
Summary:
Ever since I installed the R/T Cats I've had nothing problems. My check engine light has popped on 3 times with less than 100 miles since install. First code indicated a bad 02 sensor. Next, a hot sensor, and I haven't even taken it in to see about the third one yet!? I can't even drive the car around the block with it coming on. With no fix recommended, it looks like I wasted my time and money with this product. Corvette drivers--BEWARE!!!

Even if you dont have emissions testing, its still illegal to remove the cats.
And, if you're worried about them "clogging up" you've got serious issues with your ride.
Good thing everyone doesnt subscribe to the same thought process, or we would be in a world of schit.
are we still on this! according to fed law we are all wrong. you have to replace a cat with oem replacements or equal (epa)that is why a dealership wont putt aftermarket cats on that dont meet oem specs... but i still like not havin cats if you want to pay for them than ill be more than happy to run them if you think a corvette has enough power stock. than you be the one to get punked by that honda with a turbo. becouse it aint goin to be me pops! track or not.
than lets just get rid of all the classics that dont have cats a tuned ls1 without cats still puts out less than a carb. clasic without them. the the next time your at a show and enjoyin that 69' make sure you tell him to put cats on. and watch him tell you to take a hike. the only thing that seperates us havin cats and not them is the year the car was made! and if its all abought bein legal. whatever! everyone breaks the law, speeding, blinkers bla bla! the law is the law no matter how much you break it its still broken.
Slight sidebar...Cobra4B, that is an awesome avatar! After taking a closer look I found it hysterical.
To the alleged "tree hugger"...I'm going to guess that the typical diesel truck/city bus/18 wheeler dumps a lot more pollutants into the air than a little old 350ci motor without cats. Who's taking them to task? Of course 2 wrongs don't make a right, but as another poster stated, there's alot of other causes of pollution that are far worse than running catless. Here's a little tidbit of info for you... I bet you never knew that cows were one of the largest causes of air pollution in the world, did you? Should we put cats on them?
By the way, I did run without cats for a time but ended up putting them back on.

You just can't get people to see that running without cats is just plain wrong and stupid.
For those who wish to call me a "tree hugger" (I am FAR from being offended, mind you), there are too many 500+ HP cars out on the road that have OEM cats (including the C6 Z06) so please spare me the argument that running without cats is a good thing.

I could care less about some "rice burner" with a turbo blowing by me or having more HP than me. The Honda with turbo will always beat me because I will not race him/her street or track. Not my bag

WOW what maddness is this! well that explains alot

Different strokes for different folks my friend. I don't criticize anyone who likes to race and mods their Vette to better accomplish that goal (darn entertaining to read about here). The only thing I have a problem with is running cat-less on public roads. I simply prefer not to race. I didn't buy my Vette for that purpose. I have loved the car ever since I was old enough to know what it was. I view my Vette as a comfortable, fast, sleek cruiser. I do plan a Lingenfelter rebuild in late '08 so I am not against modding for HP. I have nothing to prove to some punk kid that sinks more money in his car than its worth in the pursuit of "smokin' a Vette" There is ALWAYS someone out there faster than you. Doesn't change the fact that running without cats gains you nothing in terms of HP. Enjoy

You watch too much TV. Thats a BS statement, literally.
Thats a statement contrived by the faction that would lead you to believe that man made emissions, of all kinds, do not contribute significantly to green house gases, and therefore global warming.
PS, I'm not a tree hugger, but I do think we all have a certain amount of responsibility to do our part to make sure we leave something for our children.
It seems to be the 'American way' to just consume with no consideration of others, or the consequences of our actions. We are a greedy self indulgent society. (off the soap box)

What global warming? Oh you mean the 1* raise in temperatures over the last 100 years? which is still 12* cooler then 1000 years ago? That global warming?

In response to your assumptions, I watch almost zero tv. I am a news junkie and my sources for information are quite diverse. I've heard the whole cow thing from multiple outlets, one of them being NPR, hardly the bastion of "factions" that seek to discredit Nobel winning scientists who believe that global warming is real. Do a search, from multiple outlets, and you'll understand. By the way, I am also not a tree hugger but I do recycle as much as possible and put the cats back on my car to reduce emissions. I also have a 425hp car that I love to drive at 135mph at Watkins Glen.
What was the original topic of this thread?????? Can't believe the mods haven't shut it down.
