Default Failed NYS inspection

My car failed the New York State inspection. The "OBD Monitor Readiness Status" says Evap system not ready and Oxygen Sensor not ready. The codes I've pulled are:

PCM - 1053 HC
60-IPC - U1064H
99-HVAC - B0361 HC

Suggestions?

You sure it's not a P0153 ????

There is no P1053 in my manual.

What mods do you have on the car ... LT headers ?? No cats ?? Or is the car stock?

If I remember, you installed LG's some time back. Have you passed since they were installed or is this the first time?

Sorry, it's P0153. Yes, I have LG's and RT cats. I had the same problem last year, replaced both 02 sensors and it passed after I drove it for a week or so. I thought it would do the same thing this year. I cleared all the codes last weekend after it failed, drove it 4-5 times this week and this morning I had the P0153 HC. Do I have a failed 02 again? Which side?

Once you clear your codes, the car has to drive something like 100 miles to gather enough data to supply to the OBDII check.

The fact your car said "not ready" I believe means not enough data has been collected yet. Just drive the car some more and take it back...and don't clear the codes again or disconnect your battery!!

An exhaust leak can cause this, and signs of black soot near the header connection to the cat pipe? Also, the oxygen source for the sensor is the wires so make sure the wire harness and everything is OK.

I'll have to get under it tomorrow and look. At times I smell exhaust fumes in the car and whenever I've checked for that there are no leaks anywhere. I'm wondering if the header might be cracked where it bolts into the bell housing. I've seen other people have that problem with LG's. If so it would be on the top side of the header so I'd have to unbolt them from the engine and drop them down to check for it.

So, even if the P0153 code is "current" it might still pass inspection after I drive it 100 miles or so?

Bank 2, Sensor 1 (passenger side - bottom of exhaust manifold)

The diagnostics have you check for an exhaust leak.

Then check wiring to the sensor - corrosion - broken wires

Replace sensor

You will need to clear the code, and if it doesn't come back, you will need to complete a single drive cycle with the following to get a COMPLETE status so you can pass the smog test.

Drive the vehicle for AT LEAST 5 minutes at a steady state speed between 55 and 60 MPH. The engine should be at "normal" operating temperature before you start this run, and the fuel tank should have more than 10 percent fuel capacity (about 2 gallons) in it.

Nope ... if the DTC is set, the car will NEVER show a COMPLETE status, and the OP said in a later thread "I cleared all the codes last weekend after it failed, drove it 4-5 times this week and this morning I had the P0153 HC"

If the DTC keeps coming back the status will never be COMPLETE no matter how many miles he drives it.

If you have a mirror, give the exhaust a good look. Hopefully its simple. Check the header bolts too, sometimes they will loosen.

Same here, and in RI they keep lowering the sniffer values. Not sure if they think the cars get better with age or if they are just trying to clear the older cars off the street

I got up under the car this morning and can't find any evidence of any exhaust leaks either at the heads or down the pipes anywhere all the way back. I got my mirror up on top of the headers at the bell housing and didn't see any cracks there or anywhere else on the headers. The wires to the O2's look good, no breaks or melted spots, etc. I took the passenger side O2 out and cleaned it up with brake cleaner. I'm pretty sure it won't pass again today. I replaced both O2 sensors either last year or the year before, hard to believe one would be bad already. Not sure what to do now.
