Default My C5 is throwing 38 codes!

I just purchased this used C5 about 2 months ago. I've throwing codes since day 3. But lately they've been getting worse. Twice yesterday while driving home, the radio turns off, AC turns off, Traction Control turns off, Fuel guage goes to empty, and temp. guage shoots up to 260. I pull over, check the codes, clear them and every thing is okay, for about 15 minutes or so. The same thing again. I wrote down the codes (all 38 of them.) Can anyone help me identify the common variable. I can't believe that there are 38 problems with this car.

Basically, I have three options.
1. I try to make some of the repairs myself, with the help of my forum friends
2. I give in and take the car to Chevy and expect to pay a lot of money.
3. I sell the car and get a new one.

The codes that I am showing:
10-PCM
P0141 C
P0410 HC
P1431 HC
P 1626 H

28-TCS
U1301 H
U1016 H

40-BCM
U1255 H
U1016H
U1096H

58-SDM
U1301 H
U 1016 H

60-IPC
U1255 H
U1064 H
U1040 H
U1016 H
U1176 H
U1088 H
U1160 HC

80-RADIO
U1096 H
U1064 H
U1016 H

99-HVAC
U1064 H
U1096 H
U1160 H
U1255 H

A0-LDCM-
NO COMM.

A1-RDCM
B2285H
U1255 H
U1064 H
U1016 H
U1096 H

A6-SCM
U1300 H
U1255 H
U1016H
U1064 H

B0-RFA
U1255 H
U1096 H
U1064 H
U1016 H

I know that's a lot of codes and some are the same under a different category. I do know how to look them up. But I don't understand the connection between them all. Can anyone help.

First of all, anything with a "U" prefix is a "communication" code. It relates to one system being able to "talk" to another system (or not) Also, any code with an "H" suffix is a "History" code and any code with a "C" suffix is a "Current" code (still present). Some, like yours, have both an "H" AND a "C" indicating a repeating code being set that now happens to be current.

Looking at the wide variety of systems reporting here, one thing that immediately comes to MY mind, at least, is that many of them are BCM (Body Control Module) related.
For starters, go to the stickies at the top of the C5 Tech forum page and read them regarding any issues involving water (coming through the HVAC ducting) getting on the BCM. Very very informative and helpful and a very good place to start. BTW, the good news is that generally the water leakage issue is fairly inexpensive to cure, but this must be addressed and not allowed to continue or it COULD get expensive.

HTH

BTW, there are possible multiple causes at work here. There is another issue that could be at play here too involving the wire harness in the driver's side door, but check out the water related stickies first and get back to us.

Look at this thread: Your codes with a "c" at the end are the ones to be concerned about. How old is your battery, btw?

Your car is basically junk and I'll be right over to haul it off for you! What is your address!

On a more serious note, LoneStarFRC has the issue nailed down. If it is a moisture problem in the passengers foot well, you need to get it fixed quick. The moisture will cause the BCM to corrode and destroy its self.

Ive seen many cars with this issue and you have a serious problem with the serial data buss that is going to leave you stranded one day soon. It happened to me, so,,,,,,been there done that!

Mine was the door wiring harness problem. The serial data buss wire insulation pulls out of the connector back shell and some how shorts out in the door frame.

Checking out the connector is easy. Pop off the accordion tube and pull the connectors out of the door frame hole.

Here is the offending wire:

Once I insulated my wire, NO MORE ISSUES!

Thanks for the detailed responses. I will do some research on that link and past threads. Especially about the possibility of it being the wiring harness.

Bill-
Thanks for the detailed picture. As soon as the Packers are done destroying the Bears, I am going to take a look at that wire harness. It seems pretty easy to get to.

Based on your description and codes, this is the place to start. Follow Bill's instructions and make sure every wire is making a good connection in the two harnesses.

First of all, (fudge)Packers suck.

Second of all, knowing you, you'll go with option 2, Sally.

(but so would I hehe)
