Default High Oil Pressure

2 days ago I installed a predator tune onto my c5.Later on that same day,I had a low oil level message appear on my DIC but later that evening it went away never to return.Today when I start up my car and I drive I notice my oil pressure level is off of the charts,at 52-54 PSI while at highway cruise speed.Anyone know what is causing this problem.

I do not believe so.It only started doing this 2 days ago and also,I am due for an oil change(only 28% life left).Could this be the reason?

Did you have this problem before you installed a predator tune? If not then I'd return the car to that state. Usually things like this become apparent after some custom work is performed.

It sounds like something is up. It can never hurt to replace the oil sending unit as the stock ones are crap anyways.

I also forgot to add that I have an 01, and after reading some threads on this forum i seems that this year model had oil consumption problems.Would a low oil level cause an increase in pressure?

Excuse me, but this seems like a dumb question. Check your oil level, is it ok? I have never heard of low oil level causing high pressure.

Check your oil pressure with your ignition on but the engine off, it should read zero. If you have a bad sensor, it will read some or high pressure. It does not sound like it is your oil pressure sensor, they usually increase to the maximum when bad.

After checking the oil gauge with the key in the "on" position, the gauge read 0.I also check the dipstick today several times while cleaning it and my oil does seem to be a bit low.

Also would a low oil level cause an increase in pressure?
Could the high oil pressure be caused by a dirty oil filter?

I think a dirty filter will cause lower readings and low oil will give lower readings.

When you start to see higher readings, it's an indication the sender is going!

Right out of my '99 manual...

Oil pressure should be 20 to 80 psi (140 to 550 kPa).
(In certain situations such as long, extended idles on hot
days, it could read as low as 6 psi (40 kPa) and still be
considered normal.) It may vary with engine speed,
outside temperature and oil viscosity, but readings above
the shaded area show the normal operating range.
Readings in the shaded area tell you that the engine is
low on oil, or that you might have some other oil
problem. See “Engine Oil” in the Index.
The engine oil pressure can also be displayed using the
GAGES button on the Driver Information Center (DIC).
See “Driver Information Center” in the Index.

hum...sender may be going bad you say.....I am now having the pressure sit at 40 psi on start, low 50's at highway cruise, and after the engine warms up the meter goes as low as the low 30's.

One other thing I may have forgotten to mention is that I parked on the strong decline for about 1/2 an hour and on the initial startup, this is when I got my first low oil level message.I actually ended up checking the oil level thoroughly and actually indeed the oil level is ever so slightly low.I had this low oil message go away later that same day as stated previously but I have had it pop up 3 separate times since the beginning of this thread but it has not come back up in 2-3 days now.

I don't see how why it would keep coming back up even though I have not parked on a decline since the first low oil level message came up...
