Default How do you check fluid level?

In an 04 MN6 tranny that is. I just put in magnetic drain plugs in all drains and couldn't help but notice that there was no fluid coming out of the hole! The car was jacked up on the drivers side when I did it. Thanks much...

On my 98 MN6 you get the car jacked up level and add fluid till it will take no more. A complete fluid change is about 3.7 quarts.

You didn't specifically mention which hole you are talking about. If you mean no oil came out of the drain hole when you installed the magnetic drain plug, you need to find out why there was no fluid in your trans. However, I'm assuming you meant the fill hole, because if your trans had no fluid you probably would have been hearing terrific noise from your trans when driving. Now if you jacked up the car from the driver's side tilting towards the passenger side, you jacked the car up in such a manner that it would cause the oil to shift away from the fill hole. The car needs to be level and then the trans fluid should be right at the edge of the hole just barely dribbling out. For filling the trans fluid, you are going to need some sort of pump to fill the trans, because you have to pump up to get it in. I got a hand pump from NAPA for about $10.

Wouldn't the magnetic plug be better suited in the drain hole instead of the fill hole (assuming the above assessment is correct which sounds logical)?

Ooopps! Wrong hole! I got the book out and I guess I'll get under there tomorrow and put it where it belongs. When all else fails read the instructions. My bad...

Don't think it will be exactly "dry" when you pull the lower one. Good time to change the fluid though.
