i have the gringing almost sounds like metal on metal noise coming from the rear of my car. it sounds like the brakes are rubbing, so we took off the rear brakes completely and the noise is still there so i know its not brake related.. the noise goes away at higher speeds. anyone have this problem??
Have your torque tube couplings check, just for starters. When mine went bad, they didn't make a grinding sound but more of a whooshing. They would work themselves in and out of place, so the noise would disappear until under hard acceleration. It was about a 6 hour job.
If the couplings are bad, Chevy may try to make you replace the whole tube. You shouldn't have to do that. The couplings are made by BMW.
Other than that, check the obvious things like bearings and shafts. If you have a good local tech, he should be able to help. The Chevy dealer will probably charge $100 just for a diagnosis.
well the weird thing is that i never heard this noise before he did a brake job for me. after the brake job i heard the noise. so i figured its the brakes ,,, right?? well he took the brakes completly off the rear of the car and had it up on the lift... you can hear the noise... stumped he put the brakes back on the car and we went for a drive... noise is gone or at least you cant hear it from inside the car anymore... weird!
