I decided to "bleed" the clutch reservoir this weekend using the Ranger method. I just bought the car in May and doubt it was ever done. The initial fluid was BLACK, and there was black crud on the rubber thing inside the cap. I cleaned it all out, replaced the fluid, pumped the clutch 30x, and took the cap back off. The fluid was barely dirty. Pumped the clutch more, and same thing. It seems all the only dirt was just a bit coming up from the hose. So I kept going, using a whole 12 oz can of Prestone DOT 4.
Took the car for a brief ride (no hard use), and boy, what a difference. It felt so much smoother. Pulled in, checked the fluid, and it was quite murky!
So I pulled out my other bottle of fluid and kept flushing, this time taking the car around the block twice to work the fluid. Used up that bottle, and that was it.
Does driving the car better cycle the fluid? It sure seemed to in my case. Has anyone else had this experience?
