Hey guy, my speedometer has been going nutz for a while now. Up, then down, then up....all while going the same speed. I was wondering if there is a sensor on the tranny that just needs to be replaced or what?
And how do I go about fixing that?
thanks,
brett

The Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) is located in the differential. It is located high up, to the rear, and slightly on the passenger side of the car. The service manual says you will have to remove the right muffler to have room to get to it.
After you disconnect he electrical connection, there is a bolt securing the VSS in the diff. Remove the bolt and remove VSS. When you put the new VSS in, lubricate the O-ring with clean engine oil. Tighten the bolt to 89 lb/inch. Replace electrical connection, install muffler, you're done.
A thought occured to me .... on your dashboard, is the MPH indicator going on/off when the speedo is acting up ??? Possibly the E/M switch for the DIC is acting up and the speedo is switching between MPH and KPH ... at 60 MPH the speedo woould jump to about 100 if it is displaying KPH.

Nah it doesn't switch.
i took it out tonight and messed with the the wiring and put some dielectric grease on the connection. Seems to be working but i'll have to wait for a drive.
P.S. - no need to remove the exhaust....it is not too bad to get to.
