Well, I have been having trouble w/ my fuel gauge droping to empty when I know I have over 1/2 tank of gas. I would stop & fill it up & it would be OK for a few weeks sometimes over a month. I finaly a message came on " Service Vehicle soon" running through the codes it came up P1431 which is the Right fuel tank level sensor. Or short circuit condition on right fuel level circuit.
GM wanted $546.00 for the sensor plus $750.00 for labor, OUCH!
I do most of my own work, how hard is it to do this? Any info would be some help. Are these codes pretty accurate, I hate to get into this & find out that I am on a wild goose chase, although the problems I am having seems to be related. Thanks, Don F
The code indicates the car senses the Right fuel level sensor is "sticking". Some people have had success running several tanks of fuel treated with Chevron fuel treatment (Techron). The sensor sticks because of a build up of contaminants on the sensor, and the Techron seems to be good at cleaning them off.
If the problem continues, then replacement of the sensor is the "fix". You can find the sensor for a better price at forum supporting parts suppliers such as ....
You can do the work yourself, but it does require removal of the right fuel tank to replace the sensor. It's not difficult, just time consuming (hence the dealer labor charge).
Thanks Guys, I think I will have to start driving it more. This one sits alot & I race my other one so neither one gets many miles on them. I will have to make a point of doing more road trips. DonF
