Thanks... I will try in the morning.... no danger of damagnig the clips if I pull the wrong way?
Not really. Just grip it at the top and sharply pull it away from the pillar. It will snap out fairly easily.
Fishing the new one in takes a little more finesse, just because the clips will want to interfere with the pillar as you try to get the bottom of the panel up with the dashpad...but it's still nothing to worry about. I've had mine out several times.
I'm not sure about the driver side but I changed the passenger side garnish molding and it had a screw at the bottom with a little round plastic cap. Make sure you there's not a screw at the base before you 'grip it and rip it' or you'll make a mess of the hole.
I dont see any screw/round plastic cap.... the part came in today.... figured it would be better to look at the back of the new one so I know where the clips are before 'grip it and rip it' :-)
Will try and post a pic of the new part for other to benefit from.
If I remember correctly, there are 3 clips. You can't mess them up, just pull the A-Pillar out. If the clips pop off of the A-Pillar you can just put them back on. When you put the new one in, just slide it down, line it up and smack it with your palm until it seats. You'll finish with a sense of "that was it?" It is really that easy.
I replaced my passenger side A-Pillar trim that was also damaged.
OK, I just took a look at my car. It's not a screw fastening the base of the trim, it's a plastic pop-in fastener. There's a tab with a hole at the bottom of the trim piece. It tucks behind the foot-well trim where both pieces meet at the side of the dashboard.
