I wanted to reduce the interior noise on my C5 so I decided to install Dynamat Extreme. I have a stock '98 LS1 with GY runflats. The obvious fix was to replace the tires but I wanted to come at it from a "worst-case" perspective. I decided on Dynamat Extreme because it seemed to have the best reputation. Everyone on the C5 forum talked about how expensive it is but I found the bulk packs (p/n 10455) on eBay for $117.00 each. It took 2 bulk packs so it only cost me $234.00 total to do the whole cargo area, rear wheel wells, wall behind the seat, drive shaft tunnel, and the front flooring area.
I did mine in two phases. I first installed the Dynamat in the cargo area and on the wheelwells. This was pretty effective and resulted in being able to have a conversation at a normal level.
After recovering from doing the cargo area, I resolved that I would do the rest of the floor area to include the wall behind the seats, the drive shaft tunnel, and the floor boards. I stripped out the interior carpet and seats then got started. It took me a few hours but I was able to get it installed without any issues.
The results.......... It made a significant difference!! It's now pretty close to a "normal" car and I'm even able to use my Bluetooth earpiece for my cell phone! Again, this is WITH the GY runflats!!! I can't wait to see how it is when I put the Michellin Pilot Sports on it. I think it will also help with the heat that comes from the drive shaft tunnel. At the end of the day, I would definitely do it again.
rustyguns CURIOUS... DID YOU WEIGH THE DYNOMAT MATERIAL BEFORE INSTALL TO SEE HOW MUCH WEIGHT YOU ADDED TO THE VETTE?
Actually the weight wasn't that bad. Keep in mind that I only did one layer. The material in each bulk pack weighed 19.8 lbs. (The shipping weight of each is 20.8 lbs) So 19.8 X 2 = 39.6 lbs that was added for everything. Again, I feel like it was well worth it. I may still do the doors but that won't add but about 7 lbs for both doors.
