It is due to GM changing the firing order on their LS1. They did it so they could raise compression (get more HP) without overheating and getting predetonation. This is what creates the "motorboat sound".
I hate it, Chevy V8 trucks sound better than our cars !
Just was bugged over this statement. The firing order change has
nothing to do with exhaust sound, Exhaust sound is mainly determined through
compression and cam specs. Also they did not do it for higher compression.
The LT1/4 had higher compression (10.4:1/10.8:1)
than the LS1 (10.2:1)and the LT1 engine (Gen II)had 18436572 firing order.
This was quote from tech article
"The other big ignition story with Gen III is a different firing order. Gone is the time-honored 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2 sequence. This new engine fires 1-8-7-2-6-5-4-3. The cylinders are numbered the same: left bank: 1-3-5-7 and right bank: 2-4-6-8. The reason for the new firing order is better idle stability and less vibration."

Mine really woke up after about a month of having them on. I'll admit that I was a bit disappointed when I first installed them in the beginning, but now they seem alot louder. Plus, I just received my Long Tubes and X Pipe so it should really wake things up!
For me, the modular motors from Ford sound the best. As for my Vett exhaust, I am done spending $. This is the 3rd system I've had on my Vett. My Corsa Indy's actually sounded nice, but since I don't drive my Vett every day anymore, I wanted to get loud and had hoped that this system would do the trick. I will need to see if I start to like the sound, if not, oh well........I'll deal with it as is
What did you do with the Corsa's? I drove someone's vette with headers,x-pipe, and Corsa Indy's or Pace cars( the same thing different name), and it was more than loud enough for me. If you want to sell them, and they don't have too many miles, I'd take them off your hands.

that is funny I always thought it had a great deal to do with the firing order and the length of the exhaust.
Your right knowledgefreak but i try to stay out of the pissing matches that get started here some times. That is why i said it sounded like a Ferrari lol. The cams have to be changed to handle the firing order and that effect the sound. A cam for a ls1 is not the same as a cam for a
lt4 and so on, and a vett will not sound like a ford or will a dodge sound like either lol.

Hey I am with you all. Do not get me wrong. I just do not see what
firing order had to do with running more compression. Call me a noob.
Because I am old school 18436572
I've seen guys in other threads note that the Chevy firing order is different from Ford, hence the different sound on Stangs. It's kind of like DNA that an exhaust system mod will not be able to change completely...
