Default Heat wrap for headers?

I'm getting ready to install a set of long tube headers. Do most people recommend wrapping the headers in some type fo heat wrap to keep the heat in? Are there advantages/disadvantages to doing so? If its recommended, can anyone recommend a good product to buy?
Thanks!

IMO a good set of coated headers will work fine.
I don't like the look either.
I use the wrap in spots where a wire might get close to the header.
I wrap the wire; not the header.

Most if not all Corvette header companies recommend against and will NOT warranty wrapped headers. I have UNWRAPPED Stainless Works LT Headers and have NOT had any HEAT related issues. Unless you have a specific header heat issue, like recommended above,,,,,,,,,,,,, WRAP the thing that is effected.

We wrapped a set of Hooker headers (non-stainless) in our V8 Vega years ago to help reduce the heat in the engine compartment from the header tubes snaking all over the place. At the time, I checked some sources and they recommended not doing it because of the probabililty of damaging the headers and voiding the manufacturer's warranty. We did it anyway and after about six months, we removed the wrap because it looked so ratty and dirty, and discovered that each header tube showed signs of getting so hot they began to melt and bubble the surface about 3 or 4 inches from the exhaust flanges. Besides, I don't think the heat in the engine compartment was reduced significantly and it was a big waste of money.

I don't know how the wrap will affect the stainless tubing, but you should check with the header manufacturer first. If they say don't do it, I wouldn't do it.

Thanks for all the advise. I've read about similar problems on the net, but wanted to come to the experts to make sure you agreed that header wrap was a bad idea.
Thanks!!!
