Is it worth it to have my LS1 heads ported. I am looking to make around450hp on motor. What is the cost of sending my heads off to be ported and valves upgraded to 2.05 intakes and 1.60 exhausts? Can I get there with ported LS1 heads? The cam I intend to use will be around 230 duration and in the 580 lift range.
I would just buy a set of low mileage 243 heads for cheap and send them off for porting or buy from some vendors who sell ported ls6 heads. Rebuilding your heads if a waste of money when there are so many new sets of heads out there for so cheap. I got a set of 241's w/ 7 miles and 1 dyno pull on them for about $200. Way cheaper than rebuilding my old set completely. Also I would let you heads choose the camshaft, not just randomly pick a camshaft. Bang for the buck I know several people who are more than satisfied w/ patriot heads. You might be 10 hp shy of afr's on a 346 but your at half the price.
even the best LS1 ported head will not flow as well as stock LS6 heads. The PP LS6 heads, a great cam,( LGX3 or similar) under drive pully and tune will get you close to 450 hp

I verified with a local tuner and he said the same thing.

A good set of CNC'd heads can be had from several supporting vendors here for reasonable cost. Try Scoggins Dicky as just one example.
Get yourself some LS6 heads for ~$500 and hand port them yourself like I did or send them off to be ported, LS1 heads will not get you 450 rwhp, CNC LS6 heads with bigger valves and a nice cam with ALL the bolt ons and a good tune will get you 450 on a dynojet.
I'm going to put the so called facts in this thread to the test. Check the thread I started a couple of days ago. I'm having a set of stock 241's ported and will be picking them up today. I will be posting flow data on these. I did these heads on exchange so the only thing I paid for is port work, they have stock valves as well. The price tag was just over 700.
Thats what I got 2005 heads off a LS2 but they are still 243 castings
sorry for slight hijack, but can LS2 heads just bolt right on to a LS1 motor...mine is a 2000 C5...just a simple yes it can with a new gasket or no you have to buy new rockers etc etc
