Default DIC Welcome message on a C5

Hello, I just bought my C5 and I love it. I tried searching for this but came up nothing after reading the 11 pages of threads so here it is.

Can I personalize the DIC message for a 1999 corvette so when I enter my corvette, I see "LN2K Vette" on the DIC?

(It says "Corvette" right now)

Thanks for reading and any useful info in advance

I know I can do this on the 2006 C6 so I was a bit intrigued when I couldn't figure it out

FYI: I dont have the HUD option.

Sorry but the answe is NO...

It is an option on the C6 but can not be changed on a C5.

If you do find some way I am sure that a LOT of forum members here would pay for that knowledge..

Default Wouldn't that be Good?

I think GM listened to all our complaints when they designed the C6

I've seen Photochops but sadly no one has managed that mod to the best of my knowledge.

I'm sure there is a way. If it's programmed to say "Chevrolet Corvette" everytime you turn the key, You could change it, But someone has to be able to get into the programm and change it. It's a computer, they can be hacked, changed all the time. Just don't know if someone will take the time to do it or learn how to do it. I'm pretty sure chevy could do it, if they wanted to, or tell us. They know how the program on that thing works

You're right, it is software, but I can't see how GM would find it worth the time and expense to "retro-fit" the function from the C6. For one thing the C6 display is a larger display, so the DIC personalization can allow up to a 20 character message. Another thing, the IPC has to be programed to not only allow the option, but also has to have the alphabet (alphanumeric characters and a blank) stored in it (you choose each letter by pushing the OPTION and RESET buttons ... kinda clunky, I've tried it) and the logic to select the letters, store the message, etc.

Who knows what processor is in the IPC ... probably some Motorola chip made for the auto industry ....you'd have to know register usage on the chip ... whatever ... dump the binary and convert to hex and then try to assembler program your way through it with no comments to guide you .... MAJOR PITA. Finally, I'm sure GM considers the code "proprietary", and also copyrighted ... so an "outsider" reselling the chip/code would have GM's lawyers on them like white on rice ....

Finally, the IPC stores the vehicle's odometer reading ... and even the dealers can't get in to change that, the IPC has to be sent to an "authorized" service center to have the odometer changed. So I suspect GM would frown on messing with the IPC chip.

And I'm sure if you ask GM ... they'll tell you to buy a C6 if the function is that important ...

Yeah yeah It's just a big hassle. If it was easy someone would have already done it by now, so I guess we are all stuck with "corvette" on our DIC. GM would love for us to buy c6's. More money for them.lol.
