I was wondering if anybody else had this problem and how to solve it.
When I shift from 3rd to 4th at WOT above 6K RPM Its hard to go into 4th gear and results in a crunch/grinding. Even If I shift slowly!!.
- It doesnt do it under 6K.
- It doesnt do it in any other gear.

Are we talking syncros???
RM:csmile:
i had a 4-3 grind and then things got reaal bad didnt want to go to first at a stop a clunk when you pushed the clutch in and clicking when in third. blocking ring broke i believe it is in the shop right now getting a level 4 from RPM...
In either case, crunch in the transmission is like a unexpected pile of metal filing in the oil-neither one is good news. Get it checked now and maybe save a lot-
The problem is that its under waranty for another 30 days but my dealer doesnt want to open up the trans. because he's not sure what it is and is afraid of wasting man hours.... he tried the car with me and shifted gears with no clutch showing me thats its not the syncros..
Somebody jump in here if I'm wrong, but doesn't shifting without the clutch (matching rpms between gears) bypass the synchros all together?
The job of the synchronizer is to bring the keys up to the speed of the next gear so that it slides in smoothly. You can do the job of the synchronizer yourself if you match the rev's between gears without using the clutch or double clutching. This would be like driving an old school truck from WWII era.
Sounds like the dealer is ing you to me. If you search for synchros you'll find plenty of information on paper vs carbon fiber vs fluid etc.
If it only does it above 6K, the 3/4 synchro may just be a little worn.
Gents,
Your grinding into 4th is caused by the synchronizer being overworked
by the 1/4 shift mode (cripple that feature!)... AND it requires major repair!!
Now my question, for those guys "in the know", is what it costs to remove/replace the transmission and either overhaul or replace?
