I am stumped at the moment installing my A&A Meth kit. I need a 12V source that I can tap into so that I can complete my relay.
A&A had me using a yellow wire under the steering column, but for some reason my car was not seeing any power from that source with the key on, and from the test light.
Do any of you have another wire under there that I can use?
You can use a little fuse piggyback from something like the radio or something that easy to tell if it blew until you get it worked out. You just have to use your test light to find out which one is keyed then just piggyback it. If its just a relay you shouldnt have a big enough load to even require a bigger fuse.
There are a pair of power leads at the front of the passenger side footwell. There is a carpeted toe-board panel at the top that you pull off to reveal a set of three wires about 3 inches long coming from a connector. This is found near the BCM to the left.
There is an orange wire that is hot all the time (Battery power), a yellow wire that is hot with the ignition ON and the black wire is a ground. Either wire will handle up to 15A.
It's never a good idea to piggyback or splice into a wire that you do not know what its purpose is or what the current carrying capacity (amperage) is. Doing so can lead to fuses blowing or a circuit breaker tripping or worse a wire getting so hot that it could melt the insulation or cause a fire.
Big Brown wire under the dash panel (near the key) is wired directly to the key switch--and is easy to get to--Had the same problem when looking to power up my stereo amp--
