Default MAF screen restriction

I weighed the pros and cons of descreening my MAF and decided to do it instead of buying one without a screen. My tuner said it would not be an issue to correct the tables. I had always wondered how much the screen made a difference since the computer programming varied between a C5 MAF and a Z06 MAF. I'm sure someone at one point has tried this but I haven't seen it on here yet. After I took the screen out I started collapsing the screen on itself but never folded it. When I got done I had a near solid piece that measured roughly 10 square centimeters. Sorry if this has already been done and I'm just

Yeah its been covered before. I think its good for like 1-2 hp. But every little bit counts.

Ive done both. Screened and unscreened.

My car didnt have as much bucking crawling at low RPM as it did with the screened verision.

Though pick up seemed a little better off the line with the unscreened verision.

I wasn't looking to debate the negatives and benefits of running a screened or unscreened MAF. I just thought it was interesting how much material was is the screen itself.

Default ok...help me out....but

wouldn't taking the screens out, allow you to very easily pass junk through and possibly allow it to cling onto those very little wires? Wouldn't this cause a miscalculation by the maf? or even damage the wires?

Yes, if you have the ziptie mod or something. Your filter should be keeping the large stuff out.

As far as the screen itself, it has many functions, but the main reason is it straightens out the air so you get an accurate reading from the sensor. It does not cause a big restriction. The aftermarket sensors that claim 10-30 HP have already been proven wrong over the long haul. With out a computer program the MAF will adapt to the computer settings.

Just get a dyno tune and leave the two hundred dollar sensor alone.

A descreen works just as good as the coolant bypass, IMHO.

If you think you screen has some surface area, look at the inside of your cats.
