Yesterday, to my extreme delight, my passenger side window stopped working. It doesn't matter which door control I use, so that rules out the switch. I hear the relay clicking in the door so the door is getting power, meaning there's no short. I don't hear the motor when pushing the button, so the window regulator probably isn't the problem, and I'm guessing it's the motor. Has anyone else had this problem, and how hard is it to get the panel out without F.U.B.A.R.?
Yeah, I know. This is not exactly an exciting thread, but it would be nice to have use of the window. Crap. Just when I get everything on this car working perfectly. Crap. Doodie. Cah-cah. Fudge. Schnit. **** (Oops. Sorry.)

Plenty of people have had the exact same problem. It might start working in a couple of days though. Some people hit the panel neal the speaker with the palm of their hands and it will start working again. Others have just continuously pressed the button and the window starts working again (this is what I did). Do an archive search on the subject and you will see LOTS of posts on it with various remedies/solutions.
Paul, I had the exact same problem with my passenger door window motor. I heard the clicking but it only worked intermittently. My local Chevy dealer replaced it under warranty and it's been working fine since. I found out that it is the same window motor as in the Silverado/Tahoe/Suburban and it is a VERY common problem; my boss has had his 2000 Suburban's replaced 4 times already.
Take it in for warranty...good luck!!

Thanks for the response. I did a search and couldn't find anything. Maybe I should have looked under "irritating little window problems."
The window worked this morning, so maybe the motor is okay. Maybe I'll pull the panel and disconnect and reconnect the wires. I hate to bring my car in for service at the local dealer, from whom I didn't buy the car. I tried...
Steve, we have similar cars, my bro! I was in Lauderdale a few days ago on business...it's getting crowded.

Paul, my car did exactly the same thing your's is doing right now: work for a while and then stop. When I first took it to the dealer for repair, it was (of course) working and they refused to replace. After being embarassed :bb on a date when she wanted the top off and the windows down, I took it back to the dealer and luckily (for once) it did not work for them and it was replaced. It has been working ever since. It is definitely in the motor though and you would solve the problem by R&Ring the wires...the mechanic told me that the motor locks up (windings?) and works only sometimes after the problem first rears its ugly head. Funny thing....almost every post I've read on this involves the passenger side.
I can appreciate your reluctance to take your baby to the dealer, especially since you did not buy it from them. I seem to remember some posts from a year or so ago about some forum members that were allowed to replace their own window motors under warranty. Maybe this would be a route you could explore with Ken? Just a thought.
I think that we have one of the highest number of Vettes in the country here in South Florida. I've abandoned the "Wave" though since no one would ever wave back (except for C1-C3'ers). Hope you get the problem fixed soon!!

Had that problem with my car last year. I had several posts indicating that the problem is quite pervasive. Some said to bang the door, others said it just started working again (as mine did). The problem seems to be a bad design in the motor where the internal gearing jams.
By the way, the motor is said to be quite expensive, so get it fixed under warranty if you can.

Paul,
When my car was new the pass. door window made a terrible noise when raised and lowered. The dealer replaced the window regulator. Take it to the dealer, they will have to order the part wo it will be a 2 trip deal.

Paul Scarpelli,
Try smacking the door panel a few times.....some have just slammed the door several times to get it working.
I think the reason that the passenger window seems to give the most trouble is because of inactivity.....exercise it every once in a while.
It may work without problems thereafter...if not, no recourse but to let the dealer replace it.
Good luck.

I like the response to this thread... if it does not work just hit it hard!! If that does not work get a bigger hammer!!
I understand the thought of not taking it to the dealership and all. Everyone here who has been paying attention to the service record on my car knows that I have shown up to the most Events without my C5 because of extended stays in the shop (up to 6 weeks) for stupid things that should have only taken 1 day to fix.
Paul, when my passenger side window went haywire on my car... the dic and the whole cluster went whacky. I was driving down the road with all of the gauges at 0!! At least that has not happened to you. :cry
Take it to the dealership and let them fix it... before it gets stuck in the down position at night in a rainstorm.

Thanks for the responses. When I read most of them, I couldn't help thinking I need "a bigger hammer.":D Actually, I got it to work yesterday by blasting about ten seconds of "Rock and Roll is Dead" by Lenny Kravitz, which must have been enough vibration to wake the motor up.
I checked the Service Manual, and it appears the motor needs replacing, although a scan tool is required to confirm, and I don't have one. I guess I'll trust the dealer...the one who never sells Corvettes and doesn't use lift pads.
SCHNIT!!

I've had this part replaced under warranty two or three times on the driver's side and once on the passenger's side. It never throws any codes. Another bit of magic that once got my window working again - disconnect the battery. After installing my European headlights, my window started working (for a brief time).

That was 1 of the things I decided to let the warranty & Dealer fix; same symptoms and it was the motor; having into other jobs like this one, I did not want to attack it....my son-in-law almost lost a hand messing around with the spring.
