Default H/C in CA.... ?

hey guys... i am getting ready to pull the trigger on a smogable H/C set-up for my 2002 Z06.

i passed smog with my old SS
(ported LS1 castings, 222/224 .566/.568 114, LS6 intake)

and was wondering what specs you are running and if they passed the sniffer yet?

i am trying to figure out what is my MAX cam size and which HEADS have the best VALUE.

thanks!

dyno graphs welcome!

The best heads are Trickflows, AFR's, ETP, and TEA. These aren't cheap though. Patriot's, Texas Speed, and Livernois are good lower budget heads. The largest cam to pass smog in CA IS A 224/228 114.

(mine is .221/.221 .560/.560 @114--passed easily could have gone a little bigger--however have never seen a 112 LSA pass -be careful with the LSA--114 or more

I think that Al @ LAPD passed with a cam that is larger than mine which has a 230/236 duration at 050. It was tuned before hand and passed with flying colors.

Give him a call for details.

Hi Keith. You're right, you can pass with a larger cam but the cars tune needs to be messed with before the smog check so it will pass. Adjusting the timing or Air-fuel ratio or something like that??

That's not true. The above is one of the easiest to pass, but I've seen 228/228 114lsa and 228/232 115lsa cams pass.

Did it pass without messing with the tuning? I have a 228/230 112 and will pass but it will have to have the tune played with so it will pass.

I have a 224/226 114, TEA heads, Fast 90/90, u/d and all the normal stuff. The only part that fails in the visual on the LG lt headers. It will pass on the sniffer.

They had to be tuned to some degree to pass. However, I've seen a 224/224 114lsa fail CA smog. The owner took the car to his tuner, they changed a few parameters, and it passed with flying colors.

Give us a call, but better still, please stop by and see what we do and how we do it. We can produce a reliable 450 RWHP package that does all the right stuff including make great torque and pass the sniffer.

Kinda funny but those are exactly the numbers Charlie was able to pull out of it. I just got back from his shop on Sat, thanks Charlie.
