Ok, so today I was driving home to pick up some gear from Fort Stewart GA. About 70 miles from home I stopped to tank up... all is fine. 40 miles later I noticed and oil smell...no other abnormalities. Unfortunately, by the time I arrived it turned into a full blown oil leak. It's dripping down onto the exhaust. With the A/C off, you can hear the oil dripping once every two seconds or less onto the headers. I can see the vapor from underneath, and it rises and comes out of the wheelwells and the back of the motor. I need to be back tomorrow morning.
Nobody local carries the sensor and I cant drive it back like that. The sensor is still reading ok, so I wonder if that's it.
any ideas? I'm pretty limited on time and I'm not familiar with the C5 LS1.
I pulled back the intake and didnt find any evidence of a leak.
Put it up on a lift and see if you can see where it is coming from. Check your oil filter (could be loose or have an old gasket stuck to sealing surface). Also check your oil level, how much oil are you loosing?
I found it late last night. Unlikely source, I was using one of those K&N filters with the nut onthe bottom... something I hit snagged it and actually bent the filter 10 degrees, warping the sealing surface out of shape. One quart and filter change fixed the problem. Now I gotta see what I screwed up on the intake... damn pasky PO443 is coming up.
