I doing my cam swap and installing a brand new LS2 timing chaing on my LS6 motor. I installed the chain with both dots facing each other. The top sproket dot on the bottom and the crank sprocket dot on top. Is this correct, just double checking?
My concern is, that the brand new timing chain has a little slack and I don't know if thats normal or what? I've done them before on foxbody mustangs and they always been very tight. What gives? It's nothing crazy, but I'm used to them being very snug..
You are correct have them face each other. Yes, there is a little slack. GM even has a 'dogbone' damper you can buy if you plan to rev high. I would have liked mine a little tighter when doing mine also.
Thank you sir. I didn't want to put the front cover back on without making sure. But Now I just found I need to make a tool to put back my crank pulley, WTF... I can't win one..
I put little dots of white paint in my "dots" so I could see them better (tough to get old). As for installation of the front cover, I used the hub that came with the ATI pin kit, it slides on the crank so you can install the cover, use the hub to align while tightening the bolts, remove hub and take your time installing the pulley. I made my tool from hardware I got from McMaster-Carr. They are right in NJ.

Thanks for the info. I looked the company info, but they are about 1hr 15min from me..
You can make a tool for 10 bucks. If you have a Harbor freight locally, go buy a coil spring compressor. You will get more than enough threaded rod to put the pulley back on. If you cant find a bearing use lots of lube under the nut.
