Cute reply, but not typically a difficult task to pick on a 190-229hp 2.5L straight six car that weighs 3100 lbs. Sort of like Lennox Lewis picking on a middle schooler and then bragging about it to try to stir the middle schooler's parents into a fight. Stick to the autocross lies, they sound better anyway.

That's how I've always seen dynos done. Run 'em up until they hit the rev limiter.

Good point.
A bit too aggressive for day one.
Don't get me wrong, I love to pick on other cars too.
Both with my BMW and my Z06.
My whole point is they BOTH have strong points and can beat one another in different types of competition.
Just got rubbed the wrong way since I have both types of cars and feel like you sold the BMW short with your post.
I intend to autocross my Z06 in SS, and it will be very strong in SS, but it won't whip my FP BMW anytime soon for FTD of an event. It surely will be a lot more fun to drive to and from the event in the Vette, and it makes for a tremendously better daily driver, redlight to redlight monster, and top speed dominator.

Default Re: Rev Limiter Question... (Norris)

My sincere apologies to all. I did not intend to start a "war of words" concerning fast cars. I just wanted to get a little reasurance that my engine probally was not damaged from all you guys that know more about engines than I. I do know that I love my Vette and I will never take it back to that place for a dyno. It still runs strong and the engine does not make any weird sounds, so I think all is OK. Again, thanks for all the input. Carl

No m3 for me, but my little old '87 325is is pretty strong when it comes to autocrossing (see other posts). My Z06 is an ULTRA strong SS car, but it can't claim to eat properly set-up m3s at an autocross.

Oh, I'm terribly sorry, I thought you were implying that YOUR Vette "eats m3s" at autocrosses as written in the context of your post. I understand that the '02 Z06 Corvette can out perform the stock 6 cylinder M3 by almost .1 second 0-60 (while weighing some 300 lbs less and having a mere 75 more horsepower), but that has NOTHING to do with YOUR Vette and autocrossing. Sure, the Z06 wins 1/4 mile racing as well as skidpad, but again that is likely due to the fact that it comes standard with more rubber touching the pavement and loads more torque and horsepower (much like the 03 Viper will again kick butt by beating the Z06 with brute force). But, as you should know, autocrossing is NOT an area where brute force will win. AND, you DO race against M3s at autocrosses because everyone races for FTD in every event! By the way, if you are racing your car in SS as you claim, and the mods that you have listed are also true, you are cheating in each autocross you run the car in a stock class! Might want to read the rule book and run against the cars that you are supposed to be classed with instead of loading the deck in your favor!! :hat
Makard,

FYI: Your 02 Z06 does 0-60 in 4.0 seconds (Car & Driver), while the 01 M3 managed to do it in only 4.7 seconds. An M Roadster is a tick faster at 4.5 seconds, tying an 01 C5 vert.

,7 seconds is significant, in my book. Therefore, you should have much fun, blowing away any M3s that come your way.

I think you totally missed the point.
His Vette is NOT a stock car and comparing it to a stock m3 is not a fair comparison. A prepared m3 will whip his Vette in an autocross and that was my point. As for beating a 3.2L straight six in a car that weighs 3400 lbs in my 5.7L v8 car that only weighs 3120 by a whopping .7 seconds in a magazine 0-60 comparison (especially in the same article that named the m3 the overall winner of the direct comparison), it just does not do much for me to get my jollies since the m3 is getting so much more performance out of a smaller normally aspirated engine. My first post conceded that the Vette could win a drag race. As posted earlier, it is the same thing as Vette vs Viper. Of course the Viper SHOULD win a straight line race. It has a bigger, stronger powerplant (even bigger/stonger for '03 since the dodge boys don't like the Z06 being so close to their torque monster death trap). That does NOT mean the Viper can beat the Vette in a competitive driving situation like the autocross we have been discussing. In fact, a stock Z06 would absolutely crush a stock Viper in most any autocross. Likely the same with a stock Z06 vs a Street-Prepared Viper. That just proves that there is a LOT more to any autocross that brute force. That is why older, big block Vettes that shake the ground at idle and can rip your head off in straight line acceleration normally don't do very well at an autocross.

A prepared M3 can certainly run awfully competitive in any racing environment. BMW Motorsport division got 1300hp out of a 1.5L turbo 4 cylinder M engine in the 1980s and installed in the proper chassis, that would be really tough for anything on gasoline without Nitrous Oxide to beat because of the power to weight advantages it would have.

I purchased my Z06 because it would outrun a stock new M3, had 0% financing vs 5.9%, insurance quote was nearly $200.00 every 6 months cheaper, and I would have had to wait a few weeks to get the M3. The fully useable back seat in the BMW combined with all kinds of ROOM was a big factor in the consideration that it received from me. But, BRUTE FORCE, V8 RUMBLE, and BOWTIE POWER won me over when we took the Vette for the test drive. I'm just not ready to hear that any SS car can outrun my FP 325is BMW, including my new Z06 because it just won't happen anytime soon!
