This probably belongs in another section but here's the question. Why does my downloaded CD-R, from my computer play in my home unit but I get an "ERR" when I try to play it in the Vette? I'm using Memorex Music CD-R, is that wrong?
try a different brand of blank CDs. memorex really suck as far as players being able to read them. I use maxell and phillips blanks. no problems with either. Junk the memorex.
also, make sure you are burning your CDs as "audio cds" and not just dumping mp3 files on a disc. I don't think the in dash cd player will read mp3s but I believe the 12 disc changer in the trunk (if equipped) will.

Agreed. Also, make sure the CD is "closed" if you use an RW. Various software handles this in different ways.
The head units GM put in their vehicles are real piles (I think the newer radios are much better....anything pre 2001 is the basis of my gripe). I've had two different GM products (95 Firebird, and 00 Grand Prix), and both would spit out CDs.....both burned, and pressed at the factory.
If you are not closing the CD (not a multi-session CD), your CD player may not be able to read the CD. I always buy decent quality CDs, too (Sony is my first choice, but as long as you can't see through it when you hold it up to the light, you should be fine). Never the ones that have no brand name on them, and cost 50% less than the brand name ones.

Unfortunately the changer doesn't play MP3 discs...I wish it would!

I don't know why but some brands work and some don't. Memorex is one that I had troble with. PM me we should meet for coffee sometime.
I bought a cleaner disc from Phillips and it "talked" me thru the cleaning process in the CD player. Factory discs and my downloaded discs worked but only those downloaded on Memorex "Music" CD-R. The "regular" Memorex discs won't play. But all will play in my home units but not GM's, thanks GM for a shi**ty unit. Off to WalMart for music discs and maybe not Memorex?

Also, I've had issues with CD-ROM's that are burned quickly. Seems I have better luck with audio CD's when burned -no faster- than 8x.
And no, the factory HU nor the CD changer will not play MP3 files. They'd need converted into a standard audio CD format first. A lot of programs (Nero and others) will convert on-the-fly in the background.
People think their CD player is playing MP3 files... when in reality the disk contains no MP3 files (they were converted to standard audio CD tracks during the burn process).
the C6 was the first Corvette to have MP3 file playback capability.
