GHL Bullets came today...gonna be putting them on this weekend.
I plan on doing the work myself, but everytime i go to do something that seems relatively simple...i always run into a complication
One thing i'd really like to have is an underside shot (pic) of someones
C5 Z06...(did a quick search and couldn't find anything.)
So does anyone have a pic of the underside of their car....the whole exhaust? Just so i have something to go by.
I'll be using jacks and without being able to stand back and see everything it's gonna be tough (getting old i guess)
I can't see something that i'm right on top of if ya know what i mean.
Suggestions for jacking up the car as well as the jack points would be very helpful. Oh and a pic or diagram of the underside of a C5 Z06
Thanx for your help,
~Marie
There's some of the undercarriage of my car here...stock exhaust on a '04 Z16 (Z06)... http://s114.photobucket.com/albums/n274/1961Z16/
This job would be much easier with a lift. Most muffler shops will charge you minimally to use their lift and/or install the system for you. You really need to get the back of the car up 36-40" off the ground, which is really risky.
If you plan to just cut your oem system off to install the after market system, that might make it a little easier. However, you oem Z06 exhaust is made of titanium and very much sought after ($250-450 in value used). When they're cut, they're not of much value since few can re-weld titantium.

You are going to need some 4x4s and 2x4s
Make sure you have a real 2 1/2 ton jack and jack stands
Your going to have to jack up the front and back
I had to use 4x4s(2ea.) with my 2 1/2 ton jack, placed under the
rear cross member /cradle. I was nervous of the height required
To get the OEM mufflers to clear over the axles without cutting.
There are posts on jacking up a C-5 do a search. Some will lift on the
frame others will lift on the cross member.
Thanx for all the input guys....i'll have to take it to a shop i guess..i have other things i need installed as well...might as well have them do it all right there.
good call.
If you don't have jackstands it is NOT safe to do at home.
You have to get the rear of the car about 28" or higher in the air whcih means creating a 2x6, 4x4, 2x6 sandwhich pad to put on top of a floor jack to get the height...
wrenching under a car supported only by a floorjack is a shoe-in for a Darwin award....

So much for doing it myself huh
You're not real far from us, we would be happy to install your parts, and dyno tune your Vette while we're at it. Plus it would give you a good excuse to take a road trip!
Try the CARX at K&N in Ofallon I think the managers name is Steve he is a good guy and has treated me well in the past. Dont forget your lift pucks and make sure they line up on them.

I was fortunate, being retired military, to use the base facilities with a drive on ramp lift. Got the system put on and it only cost me $7.25 for the 4 hours I used it. I still had to take it to a local muffler shop to have them heat and bend some of the "pre-fit" pipes to get the tips to line up properly. They told me that they see lots of exhaust systems like that and they usually always require a tweak here or there to make it line up in the back. As far as jacking the car up and having it on stands....I've never felt comfortable with that much weight directly overhead no matter how stout the stands were, always preferred to use commercial lifts. It's just not worth the risk to me. my .02...
Recently installed GHL Bullets on my 04 A4 Coupe. If you have access to an alignment rack, that makes it much easier. All I really had to was lower the sway bar by unbolting the mounts to the middle of the car. Cutting the old exhaust off makes it a lot easier too. One extra set of hands will also be helpful. Takes about an hour. Good luck and I know for a fact you'll be happy.
