clutch master cylinder?
My buddy's 02 z06 is at a shop because it would not shift into 4th gear at higher RPM's (6000+). At lower RPM's it shifts fine. I think the rest of the gears shift fine at higher rpm's as well, just 4th is acting up. Well the shop that has the car noticed when they rebuilt the trany in the past, that the 4th gear synco was bad/damaged. When my buddy drove it home he noticed that at high rpm's it would not shift into 4th. Long story short the shop has the car back and has been trouble shooting it off and on for a month now. We find out today that the they think the clutch master cylinder is bad, and after replacing it, everything seems to be working properly. Not that I don't beleive the shop, but has anyone ever had a master cylinder go out and only affect one gear? I understand the function of the blocker rings, the syncro's and a few other things to incude the master cylinder, and I find it hard to beleive that the master cylinder would be the issue. I could be wrong and have no problem admitting it. After all I don't make a living working on cars. Can anyone shed some light on this?

-Master Cylinder (easiest to swap)
-Slave Cylinder (PITA to swap)
-Pilot bearing (PITA also)
As it turns out it was the pilot bearing causing the trans to grind between gears.
