Cleaning Vararam White filter?

I need to clean my Vararam Vr2 filter and I am not sure what to use. I have the white filter. Can I use a K&N cleaning kit with red K&N oil? I think I read or some one told me you can just use WD40. I was also wondering if the new green filter would yield me any gains?

I use the K&N cleaning kit. Costs something like $10 and easily lasts >4 cleanings. I'm curious what the other mbrs use to get the old oil/dirt out when they do the WD40 thing.

Simple green diluted 1 part simple green, 3 parts water does a great job cleaning cloth type permanent filters....

did you guys us the K&N oil after you cleaned it?

WD40 works but you can't tell where you applied it...
Transmisison oil (red) in a pump spray bottle works well

Soap and water mixed in an old spray bottle. Then a douche with a garden hose. Shake it out and spray lightly with WD40. I also have the white filter.
