There are mechanical cables in the back.

There is a tag labelled "FUEL DOOR RELEASE" located against the upper trim in the driver's side of the rear compartment

I have dug all throuhg mine and could not find the mechanical release. My door was froze up last year and I had to warm it up with a blow dryer to get it to open. A little lube and it was OK after that.
